Canada Day: Canadian films tonight at RFC

The Royal Film Commission (RFC) and the Embassy of Canada in Jordan invite you to attend a collection of Canadian films to celebrate “Canada Day”. Screening will take place at the RFC building in Jebel Amman – 1st Circle, between 28 – 30 June 2009 at 8 pm.

Sunday 28/6: “The Blue Butterfly”
Lea Pool, 97 minutes, Fiction, English and French with English subtitles, Canada, 2004.

Pete is a ten-year-old terminally ill child with brain cancer. He has one last dream: to catch a butterfly, the legendary Blue Morpho, a rare creature. His mother is determined to have her son’s wish come true and convinces a renowned entomologist Alan Osborn, to take him to the tropical rainforests to find the butterfly and fulfill his dream. In 2005, the film won the Best Cinematography Award at the Jutra Awards.

Monday 29/6: “My Life without Me”

Anne is a 23 year-old mother, living with her two young children and her unemployed husband, in a trailer. She works day and night as a janitor in a university. Her life takes a dramatic turn when the doctor tells her she has only a couple of months to live. Anne starts compiling a list of things to do before she dies and discovers a new passion for life. The film received 16 international awards among which: the Best Canadian Feature Award and the Prize of the Guild of German Art House Cinemas in Berlin, both in 2003.

Tuesday 30/6: “Afghan Chronicles”

Since the fall of the Taliban regime in 2001, Afghanistan has been remaking itself. “Afghan Chronicles” focuses on the popular press group “Killid Media” which comprises two magazines and a radio station.
The documentary reveals how this media phenomenon operates and, in so doing, portrays the rebuilding of a country that dreams of a better future. “Afghan Chronicles” has been selected for several international festivals.
