Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo marked Earth Hour 2012 with the banner “Go beyond the hour. Together we can make a difference for the hour and beyond.”

Dubai, UAE; March 21, 2013: Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo, one of the world’s largest most diverse indoor aquariums, owned and operated by Emaar Retail LLC, will participate in Earth Hour on March 23, 2013 to raise awareness on the need to take concrete action to mitigate the effects of climate change and highlight the importance of responsible energy consumption.

Participating for the fourth year, Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo, will dim the lights of the main tank of the Aquarium and switch off all non-essential lights in the Underwater Zoo, during Earth Hour, from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. In addition, to further highlight the importance of sustainability and eco-friendly lifestyle practices, divers will hold a banner underwater stating: “Uniting the world to protect the planet.”

The aquarium’s viewing panel holds the Guinness World Record for the ‘The World’s Single Largest Acrylic Viewing Panel’. Underwater Zoo, located on Level 2 above the main Aquarium, presents global bio-diversity in different ecological zones including a Rainforest, Rocky Shore and Living Ocean where visitors can see and learn about amazing living exhibits such as two species of penguins, coral reef animals, Giant Spider Crabs, piranhas and Asian Otters, among others.

The world-renowned attraction won the prestigious 2012 ‘Certificate of Excellence’ from TripAdvisor and the ‘Images Most Admired Retailer of the Year – Leisure & Entertainment’ honour at Images RetailME Awards 2012, underlining its premier position as a world class leisure and entertainment attraction.
