Facebook blocked in the UAE!

Some bloggers in the UAE reported that Facebook was blocked in the Emirates today, reasons are not known yet bit it has something to do with seduction.

You can’t enforce morals by blocking a social networking site like Facebook, it’s a tool for people to social and network with each other, inside and outside the country, and isolating UAE residents like that is not a good idea.

The reason that some Arab countries deal with the internet this way is because it’s not a massive medium that generates revenues like TV and print, as we all know ad spends online in the Middle East is less than 1% of the total expenditure.

Take any Arabian satellite station or magazine, you will touch a bold liberty in visuals and topic featured in these mediums, if the internet spreads seduction, I guess Arabic songs and TV shows spread even more!

I guess it’s easier for decision makers to ban Facebook or Maktoob, than banning TV stations like MBC, LBC Melody and many others! We are talking about billions and billions of dollars.

  • which is stupid if you think about it. im sure the time people spend facebooking (yes i use it as a verb!), is a lot more than that spent on melody or mazzika or whatever people are watching these days (at least i hope so!)

  • i think it’s not BLOCKED !!!! Coz In America and Africa, China Facebook doesn’t work normally! Tooooooooo many ppl have been logged to Facebook. So probobly it’s just some problems with Facebook for 2 or 3 days. Coz the same thing was happenin’ in UAE October 2007 !!! And now it’s like ….2009-2010 !!!

  • If its not blocked why am I getting the etisalat blocked screen? Not an error measage but the screen that says this site hase been blocked?!
