On 19th of December 1994 the United Nations General Assembly declared that 16th of September as the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer. The ozone layer acts as a giant umbrella over the earth and protects us from exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet radiation that can cause skin cancer, dryness, age spots, cornea inflammation, cataracts and other eye disorders.
This ad, from Team Y&R Abu Dhabi, aims at reminding people, on an individual level, of the threat that arises with the exhaustion of the ozone layer by showing the effects of a hole being burned through a newspaper page.
The agency says the ad is also aimed at governments on an international level in the hope that they will commit themselves to fighting substances that threaten the ozone layer.

Amr, relief is on the way
Jad, the ad worked perfectly, I’m happy
A very nice ad. As an environmentalist I am happy to see the increased amount of interest in environmental campaigns. Actually the Ozone layer is being recovered slowly and it is one of the very few success story of global environmental committment. The ozone hole is mainly over the Antarctic, Australia and Northern hemisphere and not on the Arab World.
Well Batir I’m glad to hear that Ozone layer has been recovered, I thought it will never heal again. I guess this hole affected the whole world not only the areas you mentioned.
