Senior English Journalist | MBC Dubai
Duties include:
1. “Arabize” and post wire copy
2. Write headlines, select photos, rank stories
3. Review the Arabic press; translate and rewrite good stories
4. Conduct interviews and write original stories
5. Assign stories to translator and edit drafts
6. Edit stories by journalists and coach junior staff writers
7. Create slideshows, special features sections
8. Plan and do special coverage for major events, anniversaries
9. Review and publish comments
10. Select and publish opinion pieces
11. Develop and ensure compliance with style guides
12. Contribute to the long-term planning for the website
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ABOVE POSITIONS:
1. Excellent English and Arabic
2. Ability to write solid English news stories
3. Conduct research in Arabic
4. Conduct high-level interviews in Arabic and English
5. Sound awareness of Middle East affairs
6. Good network of contacts and potential sources
7. Interest in news and current affairs
8. Knowledge of news style (preferably AP)
9. Good communicator / team player
10. Ability to work evenings, weekends, shifts
11. Ability to work under pressure, deadlines
