ADFEST Young Lotus Workshop winning team announced by McCann Worldgroup

PATTAYA, 18 March 2013: The Young Lotus team from Kuala Lumpur was today crowned the winner of The Young Lotus Workshop at ADFEST 2013, which was hosted by McCann Worldgroup and attended by 30 young creatives from 15 cities.

“Young Lotus participants are an inspiration to us all,” says ADFEST President Jimmy Lam. “Every year they put their heart and soul into the two-day programme and create some great ideas.”

The McCann Worldgroup programme, “Truth about what it takes to be a Creative Today”, was designed to re-define the communications of tomorrow. It was chaired by Young Lotus Workshop Chairman, Spencer Wong, Group Managing Director and Chief Creative Officer Greater China for McCann Worldgroup, based in Hong Kong. Supporting him was a strong group of creative and planning specialists from the McCann Worldgroup offices around the Asia Pacific region.

Said Spencer Wong, “Our speakers consistently pushed our teams to reimagine the possibilities their brands and clients have not dared to dream about. And develop ideas for tomorrow. We asked them to apply this knowledge and learning when it came time to work on the workshop brief.

The teams voted on whether to make a recruitment ad for McCann Worldgroup or make a company Christmas greeting card to send to clients across Asia Pacific. The preference was to create a recruitment ad.

After presenting their work, the McCann Worldgroup team selected the top 3 teams: Matthew Williams and Frederick Coltart, Auckland; Yuko Hatakeyama and Yuka Shibata, Tokyo and overall winners Li Peng Cheok & Mohammed Khairul Anuar Bin Mohammed Jusoh, Kuala Lumpur, who will both be awarded for their efforts on stage at tonight’s Award Presentation.

The group of speakers from McCann Worldgroup were impressed with the Young Lotus teams. Spencer Wong summed up their overall view, “The teams were very engaged and energetic throughout the sessions, clearly applying their learnings when thinking about our brief. All teams scored well in terms of challenging the status quo, their ingenuity and engagingness were evident.”

He continued, “Our three finalists stood out with their original thinking and meeting our criteria to turn an ordinarily, everyday brief into something special, interesting, meaningful and impactful.”

The top three teams were invited to present their work on stage during the ‘Young Lotus 2013 Creative Workshop” in a session presented by McCann Worldgroup. In addition to the recognition for best team awarded by the YLW speakers, delegates at ADFEST voted on their favorite idea, and the team responsible for it will be awarded a ‘People’s Choice’ Award at tonight’s Awards Presentation at 6pm.
