ZeroWire Labs launches UAE-inspired app for BlackBerry smartphones at GITEX

16 October 2011, Dubai, UAE: ZeroWire Labs, a leading software developer based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and Toronto, Canada, has launched a UAE-inspired User Generated Content (UGC) application for BlackBerry® smartphones in collaboration with two Emirati Zayed University graduates. The application is now available as a free download on BlackBerry App World™ at

Fatma Al Ghaith and Meera Alsiri were inspired to develop Boum App – named after the traditional Arabic deep sea dhow – after many of their friends wanted to share their favourite ‘hidden gems’ of the Emirates by interacting with their social networks and friends using BlackBerry smartphones.

Boum App allows users to capture images and post them to the app, along with a brief description of the location or subject. Locations are tagged via GPS, and users can upload an infinite amount of sites for visitors and residents to explore.

“Boum App is a fantastic tool for everyone to enjoy, whether they’re residents or tourists,” said the developers, Fatma Al Ghaith and Meera Alsiri. “As Emiratis, we know a lot of places that might not be common knowledge, and we love to share these with people to have them experience the history and heritage of the UAE.”

“ZeroWire Labs is very keen to support our local developer base. We have created a powerful app for BlackBerry smartphones that integrates social media and user-generated content,” said Mohammed Ali, co-Managing Director of ZeroWire Labs. “The application was developed for the BlackBerry platform due to the strong user base of customers in the UAE – it was an easy decision for us to develop for this platform.”

Boum App was created with the support of the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, Zayed University and ZeroWire Labs.

ZeroWire Labs is a member of the Middle East chapter of the BlackBerry® Alliance Programme, which provides technical, marketing and business development support to BlackBerry developers.

About Boum App
Founded by two young female Emirati graduates from Zayed University, Boum App is the first app of its kind that caters to promoting the image of the U.A.E. Boum is a mobile application based on user content that will allow people to experience the U.A.E from local users. The aim of Boum App is to position itself as the leading mobile application for the U.A.E. The name Boum was chosen because it is the Arabic translation of Dhow. Just like those Dhows , Boum will be a tool that will be used to transport ideas, photos, comments and reviews of users to other users as well as in sharing views on destinations and hot-spots all around the UAE.
