New Directors from Perth, Bangkok and Tokyo Make Up This Year’s Fabulous Four

BANGKOK – 29 January 2014: ADFEST is delighted to unveil this year’s Fabulous Four directors, with two directors from Tokyo (Japan), another from Perth (Australia) and one from Bangkok (Thailand).

Congratulations to:
– Adam Graveley, Writer & Director, Trilogy Advertising, Perth
– Keisuke Kuroyanagi, Director, Tokyo
– Taviras Amatyakul, Director, Bob Eye View, Bangkok
– Tomoichiro Setsuda, Director, Tokyo

Their short films will premiere at ADFEST 2014 in the Short Films by the Fabulous Four session, where they will also discuss the inspiration behind their films.

“Fabulous Four is an incredible initiative that exposes up-and-coming directors to production executives from all over the world as a way of kick starting their careers. I’m excited to see what this year’s Fabulous Four produce,” says Alibhai, Jury President of this year’s Film Craft Lotus and New Director Lotus.

All four short films were inspired by the theme of ADFEST 2014, ‘Co-Create the Future’.

Graveley’s short film is called ‘Karen’; Kuroyanagi’s short film is titled ‘Deads’; Amatyakul’s is ‘Love for now’; while Setsuda’s short film is titled ‘A Man’.

The Fabulous Four directors now have just a few weeks to cast, direct, shoot and edit their film scripts in time for their premiere at ADFEST, which runs from 6th to 8th March 2014 at the Royal Cliff Hotels Group in Pattaya, Thailand.

Every year, ADFEST invites new directors and assistant directors to write a five-minute short film script inspired by the festival’s theme. This year, ADFEST received 24 scripts from directors in eight cities.

“Being a Fabulous Four director actually relaunched my career. I was struggling as a commercial director for a couple of years, unable to garner any real work. As a direct result of the Fabulous Four experience I met Executive Producer, Victoria Conners-Bell, and from that meeting I eventually signed with Airbag Productions back in Melbourne. Airbag is a very successful company in Australia and I have been doing quite well,” says Raphael Elisha of Airbag Productions in Melbourne, who was a Fabulous Four director last year.

Another Fabulous Four alumni, Andrew Lok, has launched his own branded content company, CIVILIZATION, which is working with major corporations like PepsiCo. He says, “The competition made me realise just how much I still had to learn about bringing a strong script into life as a captivating piece of visual narrative.”
