New Marketing honours degree launched at Middlesex University Dubai
News — By Samer Marzouq on July 23, 2010 at 3:47 pmTo meet the needs of the industry in Dubai and the region for skilled marketing professionals, Middlesex University Dubai is launching a new specialised honours degree in Marketing. This three year honours degree is a very successful programme at the University’s home campus in London and students in Dubai will now have the opportunity to study it locally.
Starting in September 2010 at Middlesex University Dubai’s Knowledge Village campus, this degree will suit those aspiring marketing managers who effectively want to understand and operate in the global business arena.
Commenting on the new programme, Dr. Lejla Vrazalic, Associate Professor and in charge of business programmes at the Dubai Campus, said, “The BA Honours Marketing Programme is designed to help students develop professional marketing abilities and skills to pursue careers as successful marketers.”
“These skills include researching, evaluating and recommending solutions to business problems, dealing with a range of stakeholders, effective communication, and a range of problem solving and communication techniques which are sought after by employers,” added Dr. Vrazalic.
This new three year BA Honours programme recognises the need to build life long learning and critical thinking skills into the student experience. Emphasis is placed on material and methods that develop the knowledge and skills needed for students to engage in the wider societal debates about marketing approaches and practice, and to assess the value of information and data in our increasingly knowledge-based society. Students will also learn the role that various technologies can play in delivering, managing and assessing information and data. Students who wish to take professional exams towards the Institute of Direct Marketing (IDM) qualification will be able to do so upon successful completion of the BA Honours Marketing Programme.
In 2009, the Dubai campus successfully launched a number of new programmes including a BA Honours in International Development, a BA Honours in Advertising, Public Relations, and Media. And more recently a BA Honours in Journalism. All academic programmes in Dubai have the same validation and monitoring systems as in the London home campus, with the same examinations taken simultaneously in both cities. The Honours and Masters degrees awarded to Dubai campus students are therefore identical to those achieved by students at the London campuses, and students can transfer to and from London at any time they wish. The Dubai campus is celebrating its sixth year in Dubai which currently enrols over 1400 students and has more than 1000 graduates.
The UK’s Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education’s (QAA) has given its top-most rating to Middlesex University in 2009. QAA identified as ‘good practice’ the meticulous attention given to the establishment, development and integration of the University’s Dubai campus. The University was praised for assuring that learning opportunities in Dubai are comparable to those available to students in London. The campus is also licensed by the Dubai government’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). Furthermore, the University Quality Assurance International Board at KHDA reviews all programmes on offer in Dubai to ensure that the quality of programmes taught in Dubai are equivalent to those at the home campus in London.
