2 April, 2012, Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Research In Motion (RIM), the maker of the BlackBerry® smartphone and BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet, will be sponsoring the 2nd Middle East Summit on Mobile Computing being held at Zayed University in Dubai, from April 11-12, 2012.
Building on the success of the 2010 Faculty Summit held at Zayed University, the event provides a unique opportunity for faculty members, students, application developers and industry representatives to learn about the potential that exists for mobile computing in education and the enterprise.
Zayed University offers the BlackBerry Academic Program to its students, which integrates information about BlackBerry platforms into students’ curriculum, providing access to educational resources to help enable students to develop applications, manage BlackBerry devices and software, and learn more about BlackBerry technologies.
BlackBerry Academic Program partner and affiliate of Zayed University, Professor Qusay Mahmoud, Director of CMER at the University of Guelph (Canada), said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for RIM to showcase its technologies to the UAE’s up-and-coming developer base, as well as allowing educators from across the region to see what BlackBerry can do for their institutions with the help of the BlackBerry Academic Program.”
The two-day conference will allow faculty and students to interactively learn more about mobile computing through keynotes, case studies, discussion panels and hands-on sessions hosted by experts from RIM, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), local telecom provider du, as well as respected academics and application developers from the United Arab Emirates and Canada.
Day one of the conference will host multiple talks about mobile developments, as well as academic presentations from educators and developers to help students learn more about the opportunities in the Middle East mobile apps market. Day two will host four developer sessions ranging from mobile app development tools to publishing apps and best practices, as well as an introduction to the new BlackBerry® 10 operating system.
The 2nd Middle East Summit on Mobile Computing will be held at Zayed University’s Dubai Campus at Dubai Academic City. For more information and to register, please visit http://cmer.uoguelph.ca/mobilesummit/
