Last night was the final night of the Jordanian Band Competition, which was organized by Orange Red and The French Cultural Center for a whole year, Salam won the first place, followed by Zaid Hamarneh & Vengo second, while Jadal came third.

The event, which was held at The Royal Cultural Center, was full of excitement and energy, one can notice that Jadal is the most popular band among the three, and I guess the final results were not so pleasing for the majority of the crowd, who left the theater right after announcing the results and didn’t wait to see Salam in their final performance.

This event clearly shows that Jordan lacks musicians, three musicians played with both Vengo and Salam, so half of both bands was the same, could this be the reason that Jadal came last? :) Not only that, Salam featured the lovely voice of Sho Hal Ayam, Enass.

I guess you can’t be with two competitors at the same event, could you?

Personally I don’t like Jadal, and I thought that Salam were good, but if you think about it, Jadal performed only in Arabic, in a Jordanian accent, unlike Zaid Hamarneh & Vengo, who performed purely in a Lebanese accent, Salam performed in both Arabic and English, I wonder isn’t the local accent an important factor in such competitions?

Anyway congratulation to all winners! And looking forward for this year’s competition.

  • I swear to god I was going to kill someone of those people screaming VenGOOOOOOOOO ZeeeZoooooooooo

  • yea me too, they are so annoying.

  • i think that’s just typical of us here in Jordan, once we have a real talent we start ripping on them just out of jealousy, spite & hatred…

For the record i have no personal connections with any of these bands & i did not even attend the show, but i saw the video & i really think that they are all good talents & they are all winners at this point & we as a Jordanian audience should support each & everyone of them because they represent us one way or another…

but if you want to disregard the fact that they are Jordanian bands & criticize the music itself… by all means…

first i’ll start with what i’m guessing is your favorite band among the 3, Jadal, i’m sure they have a great following (due to excellent social & networking skills rather than talent), but when i hear their music, i’m pretty sure that they’re ripping off the famous band “Muse” note by note, i swear, so to me they lack the least bit of originality (putting some meangless Jordanian accent lyrics to some Muse & Coldplay music is NOT originality at all), & they come off to me as a the most pretentious & arrogant act i’ve ever seen, they lack charisma & their stage presence (at that night) was awful, they played as if they knew they’re gonna go home with the first place in their back pockets (which if happened, then it would be due to their extensive marketing campaign in bringing their friends & families, families of their friends & friends of their friends & friends of their families) & that is actually the reason why the hall was filled with so-called fans of theirs.

& Regarding Jadal deserving to win because they sang in a local Jordanian accent, hmmm i’m sorry but i have to disagree with you as many well known famous bands won local competitions singing in other languages (Riverside & Pain of Salvation to name a few)

to my taste in music, all three lack so much to cause this hype about who won this competition, but i support each & everyone of them because they are local talents & they need our nurturing to make it bigger hopefully.

  • reem, who is ripping them, me or you?

yes it’s stupid to play with bands other than your original one, especially at the same competition and right after each other, it is stupid and it shows how bad the situation in Jordan is.

Plus I don’t like Jadal, I’m saying this cause you said they are my favorite.

You do have the right to agree or disagree with me, but read carefully before you comment :)

  • first of all thank you for reading my comment & replying to it…

& please understand that it is not personal against you or jadal or selam or vengo…

but from my humble knowledge in music, many well known bands have a few common key members, & they play gigs all the time just like (Spocks Beard, Transatlantic, Dream Theater, Neal Morse)

you know i wish that all local musicians get together & form one big project where they collaborate together & make music that is for once well rounded but i know this will never happen as ppl here in Jordan have ego issues that they can’t get over it & they are not even that good or creative musically.

the only local musical talent i can relate to is Rum & that’s it, sorry…

  • well reem that is a goos idea, and I hope it will happen.

And Rum is a great band, I agree :)

  • i personaly attended the event .. for a specific band actually..
it was the first time i see salam’s group and honesltly it was a very fair concert n am glad they won.. they wer really amazing ;) dg luk u guys

  • Hey there I liked what you wrote “Jazarah” its almost true.
I don’t think in one competition you share same members, most of the bands shared members but Jadal. so we gotta give them some credits for that.

and yeah I’m a freind of Jadal’s members, but I still say and that Salam band won that night, I think Jadal had some sound issues but thats not an excuse anyway, I dont wanna talk about Vengo…

and Jadal has that huge following cause their an established band, had singles on the radios and been around and they Influenced many bands that you see these days and I beleive Salam are one of them, I think thats not a bad thing anyway, so thats more credits for Jadal, specially with them playing that style for the first time, and all the bands followed.

thats another thing you should understand about influence, you will never hear of Muse if there was no Radiohead…I love both :) .

I think you should be more fair when talking about bands, cause if you want me to talk about other bands, listen to “Cake – Never there” compare it to “Salam band – meen”, My friend opened my eyes to that and I was shocked! but its maybe influence.
Anyway I think Jadal and others like Aziz maraka or Yazan al rousan are the best around, I think these represents Jordan well, not other bands singing in other accents or languages.
