Samsung expands on-demand entertainment experience to SMART TV viewers in the UAE with launch of Movie & TV Shows Panel

– Research conducted by Samsung shows 88 percent of consumers use their smart TV to stream video content.

Dubai, UAE – December 10, 2013: Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, announced the launch of the Movie & TV Shows Panel, an application pane available on its Smart TVs that will give users access to thousands of the latest movies and TV shows.

Expanding on the entertainment experience Samsung offers to its Smart TV consumers, the Movie & TV Shows Panel offers a host of unrivalled on-demand video content through a partnership with icFlix, an online media streaming service. It provides subscribers the opportunity to enjoy watching the latest programs and movies at the click of a button.

A recent research study conducted by Samsung highlighted that 88 percent of our Smart TV consumers use their Smart TV extensively on streaming video content.

“Video on demand is fast becoming popular in the UAE with more Samsung Smart TV consumers wanting to access the latest movie and TV content quickly and conveniently.” said Vinod Nair, General Manager, TV Business at Samsung Gulf Electronics. “This is why Samsung has been working closely with on-demand video content service providers to create an enhanced interactive entertainment experience making it easier for them to watch their favorite content when they want. As easily as clicking through to the Smart Hub Menu on your Smart TV, users will be able to instantly access a host of movies and TV shows by accessing the new Movie Panel.

Currently the Movie & TV Shows Panel taps into the content database from icFlix, which offers users the opportunity to directly stream all of this premium content. Currently, icFlix offers over 6,000 Jazwood (Arabic content), Bollywood and Hollywood titles at a very affordable monthly subscription. Samsung will continue to partner with all VOD service providers in a bid to widen the choice of content available for its UAE subscribers

Samsung also recently launched the NewsOn Panel in partnership with Yahoo on its redesigned Smart Hub, which delivers easy access to timely news information for Smart TV consumers.

Samsung’s 2013 SMART TV range offers a host of new innovative features, such as its advanced Smart Interaction that allows consumers to use everyday language and casual gestures to control the TV. The motion recognition has been enhanced significantly, allowing users to zoom in and out using two hands, flip through Smart Hub using a wave gesture and add content to favorites with a simple thumbs-up gesture. The new range includes a redesigned Smart Hub that offers five dynamic menu panels to help consumers manage and navigate different types of content. Using the Smart Hub interface users can easily search for movies, shows and videos via online services and across connected devices.

Samsung Consumer Research – Smart TV Usage
The Samsung research reviewed respondent’s usage of SmartTVs. It highlighted that of the total time spent using Smart TV applications, 88 percent of the respondents time was being dedicated to video streaming and audio calling. The study also highlighted Smart TV consumer’s buying habits, announcing that 81 percent of respondents stated that the highest motivator of purchasing a SmartTV was its ability to make video calls. The ability to download new, social networking platforms, games and video also played important roles in influencing consumer buying habits.
