    Saudi.net is a big thief DSL service is poor come on it is far from poor….
    Saudi DSL total nightmare they just keep crowding the lines and getting more income and they don’t wanna expand there lines or they r expanding very slowly and one time a Tec from there side said while in an aggressive conversation between me and him:
    WHAT CAN I DO YOU KEEP PAYING FOR THIS SERVICE AND THEY KEEP PUTTING MADE IN CHINA BOARDS.
    bad points:
    1-bad ping
    2-many d/c
    3-speed changes
    4-it takes forever 30min to 50min for someone to answer.
    5- who answer the phone got less then average knowledge about dsl.
    good points:
    1- they give you the dsl line as fast as they can. more crowd less service slower connection like they care as you said total monopoly..

    That is true, the DSL service is so bad…..
    response to our calls take 15 to 30 min…..
    and cut lines many days happens… many times…. also electricity!!

    we are so angree from this shit !

    i use SHAMEL the bad service from Aafaaq DSL !!!

    well it’s a new idea to steal your money… i cought in (poor me!)

    thay disconnect in-bound every 5 – 15 min to low the service…
    ]thay block the connection to other DSL providers.. from the net, Pages BLOCKED !!!

    yes thats 100% true DSL service is toooo bad.I am applied three weeks before but not any responding fom DSL. I am spending every day more than 30minute calling in 907 also sending emails but no use

    Well I played with 3.5G (STC and Mobily) and then found WiMax service from http://www.wi-max.com.sa

    The only issue is that you need to be sure where you are located in relation to their base station and you can check this out on the website above. I have a 1Mbps connection and because I am at the fringes of their coverage area, my download is about 1Mbps while my upload is about 100Kbps.

    The company is called Banayat Al-Oula and they were bought out by Mobily. Mobily is now selling their packages from the Mobily website and have a Ramadan offer.

    STC support sucks big time , i have fallen sleep many times by listening to recording advertisement msgs while waiting for 20 mins after that line drops itself.

    i have memorized what options to dial to get to support msgs , dial 907 than wait … hit 2 – 3 – 2 – 5 … bingo ur in a endless hopeless waiting list… if by mistake u call on some sensible hour of day it gona say sorry we are busy in serving other customer as u called on peak time we suggest call another time or go to website and check things..

    first they blamed my modem i took it for health check and guess what it worked over thre at technical checkup place in first attempt :s.. THIS PART OF WORLD DONT KNOW WHAT SUPPORT SERVICE MEANS….. or After sales support !!!!!!

    I am not so negative about STC. Their DSL service is ok when it is ok. If by bad luck you have to call 907, that is the time you may regret. Their 907 service is superb except that your stamina should be everest like. I have been using AFAQ DSL and my ISP is Zajoulnet. Except for hiccups that spanned around a month, the service is ok.

    Now that I want to disconnect the DSL service, strange, their site does not offer any such option!

    It seems once you are caught, never think of getting out.

    I am preparing myself to that big thing:calling 907 and getting it disconnected.

    Oh well i do agree that if it works it works good , when it goes bad its like a demon unleashed from hell , u cant do anything just pray it goes away. All ur efforts will be in vaing.

    STC should upgrade out outsource their 907 thing to other countries atleast customers feels they are being heard instead of they hearing endless advertisements.

    I have applied for a DSL connection through STC. First of all they put me on a waiting list for the connection and now they are saying that it will take atleast 2 months because there is no signal for dsl. What do signals have to do with dsl?

    I don’t understand what you people are trying to say? I’ve a DSL line at my home and it worked like charm. I’m in Riyadh. Now week ago, I applied for a line AFAQ DSL Shamil and I got free WiFi Modem 2 months subscription. My internet is working very good. It took 1week to setup all.
    1 Saudi Net Service!

    I installed a Shamil DSL line on 12th January’09, it went out of order on 19th January’09 (Connection to DSL line was lost) I made so many calls to 907, all they say is it would be ok after 2 hours time(Its over 20 days now, but nothing has happened to date, Last week they sent a technician, he too could not do any thing, again he said two hours,
    STC SHAMIL LINE IS A FARCE, DO NOT GO FOR IT, THEY WILL ONLY CHERGE YOU, BUT YOU WILL NEVER GET THE DSL CONNECTION ONCE YOU HAVE LOST, THIS IS ANOTHER SCAM OF THE STC

    I wanted to do port forwarding in my Afaq Shamail modem and this can be only done by loggin into modem.
    The dudes who installed it changed the password, and I am not able to login. called STC many with no help.

    The software setup works fine, so I guess there is a default usrname/pwd STC uses for all modems. If any one of
    you have any ideas ,pls share..

    Hi Sameer,

    Here is the Shamil modem username and password:

    Username: Afaq_shamel
    Password: stccpe_2007

    I found this in a javascript file on the cd provided with the modem. It’s in VistaFlowscriptsrouterrCPEs.js

    You can look for the username and password in that file if the one I mentioned doesn’t work. I don’t know why STC doesn’t want to tell this info to their users. They should provide the modem with default username and password. Anyway, hope the info I provided works for you.

    If its any consolation for everyone who posted here.. I had to wait 2months before I got my dsl connected…. now to make things worse… I signed up for 20M service but my download speed is absolutely slow… now i don’t know how their 20M is defined here… max bittorent speed is 100k… steam download is crawling 10k-30k… wtf… I have cable internet in my home country and I get 300k-600k torrent and sometimes 700k-1200k steam download. Internet Explorer download is about 100k max here and back home, 1000k average.

    I am curious about where this 20M comes from… and why even bother with PPPoE type broadband service these days? >.> thats just stupid… Oh not to mention crappy Echolife 520s modem/router/wireless G… G is old… bring in the N. With the money STC is charging on their slow as hell DSL… they should at least provide N class wireless/modem… Maybe STC should get some outside help to improve their backbone…

    By just looking at other comments i see it all now in bitter moment of enlightenment,

    1. 907 is actually a torture line
    2. Afaq Shamil is actually based on paying more money for nothing new, just as the previously poorly planned offer they made regarding the free international calls
    3. STC don’t quite comprehend what the data transfer units really mean…. i have applied for an upgrade from 256kbit/s to 4Mbit/s and my highest download rate was 50kbyte/sec, i have wasted more than 6 hours in the past 72 hours, waiting, listening to the annoying promotional messages about how great shamil is, and how my call means a lot to them, just to talk to 5 useless operators each with another magic solution that basically involves me hanging up and everything will be fine within 2-24 hours, some also insisted on convincing me that the subscribed speed 4Mbit/s is actually what i’m getting

    I’m helpless … my first thought is to get a box of rotten eggs and throw it at the nearest STC office, i mean how worse can they get …unless … well ..

    OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!?!?!?!?! thats the only thing i can say….. when i heard about these new 70% discounts by STC i was really happy and thought about upgrading. After a day or so i made up my mind to upgrade from 256 KB to 2 MB.
    i called 907 and then they said ure dsl will be updated in next 24 hours (as usual) after 24 hours i recieve a new username and password. wen i put that in i end up with the same old 256 KB/s. nd from that day on i nvr got the speed back. even though they r charging for 2 mb/s
    ten days r passed!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I thought I was the only one suffering. I didn’t realize that theres a flock of angry people.

    My bitter story goes like this…

    I applied for 4 mbps in August 2008. After a week, I received my phone number. A week later, my username and password. Then after a week, a tech guy came, installed my so-called dsl connection. Alas! I got my dsl working after 3 weeks… When I paid my first bill, I was surprised that the date started the moment I called STC and applied… very surprising…

    Then my torture began. There were connection-less nights… slowwww, craling connection… Speed fluctuates… Then for three weeks, I had my connection nailed to 1 mbps instead of the 4 mbps I applied for. I called 907… surely they listen… but once they put down the phone… they also immediately forget your concerns…

    For four months, I suffered slow connectivity… When wimax came, I thought if I would apply for it, things will get better… So I called 907… I was surprise, this time it was quick… maybe because they put their best operators in the incoming calls for income-generating clients…

    Imeediately after a week, I got my new username and password. But when I tried on their ‘ECHO’ modem, it just wont work. I decided to change my modem with a new linksys… it worked! but surprisingly, my speed didnt change… it got even worse… my connection was not only slow… but was unstable as well… gets cut off every 15 minutes…

    Tomorrow I’m going to explore the possibility of subscribing to NESMA…

    i was happy before one week with dsl connection.But now its poor.i lost my connection.i called 907 may 20 times no good response from them.first they blame my modem as per thier advice iam re install my modem bt still problem not solved.again i call now they said they will send one technician for fixing that problem.i dont know whn it will okk. fukkkk stccccc

    STC infrastructure is ok with me i am using Afq DSL for twi years now it is ok except if you have any problem you are hepless as 907 or any STC line as usual they are not there to help .when you first year your voice you will come to know they hate to help you but they seems helpless because they are STC people get salry from STC so you are truble makers to them when any reason my line is cut or any problem i feel it very hestataing to call STC guys as they hate to help you manytimes except for their role neeeds to do so. but as far as it is working i think STC is good bullt company infrastructure is good. but as usual in saudi Arabia people very rarely listen to customers

    I am using 10mbps Afaq Shamel ADSL Connection, it rocks, blazing fast download speeds, good ping, no d/c and much more!!

    b.t.w Disconnects are caused due to frequent use of .torrent technology, it fills up the NAT Tables fastly because of frequent IP Changes etc, so it makes your Router get Unstable and Reboots..!

    well!! reading all the message… makes me feel better, i have spent 4 nights trying to configure the modem, i am getting connected but not able to browse, or it is very very slow, dns get disconnected…. called the 907, (sometimes i feel i should call 999 and give a complaint about 907, but then… ) i went through the torture… the part i hated was when we are waiting the answering message say ‘you can fix most of your problems on your own’ and logon to http://www.stc.com.sa... now if i can do that why will i call them… after three to four days i was able to get a agent and told him about my problem then after waiting for another 4 days a tech arrived, he had ear phones and was listening to music, when i was trying to speak to him, he said he cant hear me because he is listening to music… i kept quiet becuase i wanted to get the net working… he open his lapto connect the dsl to a gadget and then cooly said you have 256K, then i told him i have 1M, he unpluged one of his headphones and said, he doesnot know about that and cooly told me a joke… someone will call you from stc and left….. The my nightmare started again calling and calling, then some tech called me and said your phone is working alright i said but my dsl is not, he grumbled and then my phone went dead… my nightmare started fresh again with more climax…. now i had two task to complete to get my connection back… 907… again after two days someone came and fixed my phone and said i never leave any job unfinished i was happy, because that was a good lesson i learnt.. if you want to make someone happy, first remove something that is close to him and return it back.. he will be happy… well now i have phone line to call 907… i am still out of browsing.. i have purchased speedtouch when they said that my good looking well behaved wireless linksys modem is not good… but i am still unable to browse.. ordeal started on 22 – March till date nothing…. thinking of not paying the phone bill and sending a letter … hope i dont have to call any numbers to give my petition…. by the way i just sit in office long hours to finish my person work on net…. please pray for me i get my connection back… moral of the story.. i am still smiling…. spend more time with my kids… :)…

    to “colorofghostg” … i wont be suprized if they come to know you are spending more times with kids , they might say “yes we are STC we make you closer to your family” .. anyways i had a similar problem , for me that not paying the bill threat worked out very well 😀

    logon to STC.com.sa , login to your account , go to disputed bills section and somewhere there you can start a dispute , so just start it saying you wont pay dsl charge for the down period.. i did that and next morning i got a call from some angel technical guy from his personal cell at 8:00 am , it was fixed till 8:10 :)

    The WORSE service in the world is the stupid STC DSL, when you call 907 2 3 2(*&^&&^^&#%^$%$%$????$%?$ it take an hour before they can answer, HEY! We are paying you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FIX your service, if there is another company offering telepone line i will remove this stupid STC from my house. FUC**** STC

    got issue too, its much related. I was looking for an answer about my Afaq DsL problem. 3 months ago
    I applied for the DSL line to be fare it took only 1 week to install the telephone and DsL line. during the date that I applied for the line it was their promotion period its free modem and free telephone charge but when i got my bill records I was charged with DSL chargers installation and the telephone line. its almost 3 weeks already that I was calling 907 and promised me that they will resolved or answer what happen but till now its nothing. And a new problem occurs just recently the modem that they include is not connecting to the enthernet. to configure the wifi lock will take u days to connect in the net. can somebody teach me how to configure my wifi lock? does my windows xp is stopping it to configure it right? is it a requirements to have a vista windows to fix it? I was able to configure all setting in modem for i have used already thmoson modem at its very easy to configure. and also linsys modem. but this china made modem geee… Do I need to learn how to speak chinese?

    ARe th STC top management reading this? Honestly men! You have hired too many poor technician. why I say so? just please look at your telephone box, this telephone box where you distribute your line going to Residential units its like a spider web connection! its true indeed I have 50 photos of how your technician doing it in a messy way. almost every telephone box is very hard to trace the line it line a batch of worms.. a spider connection system. hhhmmnnn… Heloo sir can i apply in STC as a cable man.. or can I apply for cable man supervisor and meet this technician of yours. and teach them how to organized the wire. because of this messy work every time they connect new line somebodies line is disconnected because of the noddles wiring.

    This is the worst service I have ever experienced. The DSL/internet drops signal every few minutes. I am trying to call these assholes on 907 but evern after waiting for hours, nobody picks up.

    If I just get DSL from STC and get internet from some other company, will it be better? Which company is better in Riyadh?

    not sure what you people are talking about, i have DSL max from saudi net (20 mb/s) and its great. its close to 20 mb/s most of the time, although the upload speed is not great (1 mb/s). torrent downloads can go up to 2000-2500 kB/s and they’re done before you know it. my ping is 18-20 ms which isn’t bad. you can check my speed test video on youtube if you’d like.

    Its really some times teasing, but still overall I am satisfied my dsl connection. I am using 4mbs, most of times I get 3.59, and of course upload is a bit slow which is normal. My ping is 64 quite good. Use speedtouch modem to get best results. Also STC gave me free modem , but only problem is after sale service and care. Some times laguage is also restriction to get proper support and service. MY overall rating for STC dsl is 70 %

    For the last two weeks my DSL speed was slow at around 200Kbps (i am subscribing 2Mbps Afaq DSL Shamil) I sent emails, tried to contact on 907 and finally someone attended the call on 907 and my problem fixed. Now getting 2000Kbps download speed :)

    WTF!!!what else can i say???everythings been said by the victims here! but let me share some of mine first of all DAMN STC Afaqshamel!for their false and fraud promotion offers, i was a victim myself, and guess?what, their very accommodating at first, once you applied for their services and as soon as i received my first bill whollaaaah!!! i was charged with the installation, and the 2 months subscription, and guess what i phoned them to discontinue my services they never did till the the seventh month, and whats my consolation i have to pay them either ways hahahahah!!!and not to mention 7 months of very disappointing DSL service which should be nominated in Guiness Book of Records!!LOL! categorized as ONLY IN SAUDI ARABIA!!! by the way i think it was an error to name their product as Afaq Shamel…………..the “L” should be omitted, it should have been!! Afaq Shameeeeee!!!! on you!!!

    I got DSL Shamel connection7 months before. Last week I lost the internet but the DSL light was glowing.I am using model no:011. I called 907 ,the person asked me to re-start the modem 4 times. Then he told he made a ticket number and the technecian will come in 2 days. On the 2nd day I got sms stating that the technician is coming today and with his mobile number and ticket number. Afternoon he called me and told me that he repaired the connection. I got a message from 907 also that it is repaired. Now the internet is working fine. Next day morning he called me to confirm it. I felt it STC is doing a good service.

    You guys should be thankful. I live in the united states and customer service there sucks much more than in Saudi.
    I could wait for 30 or 40 minutes before a customer service agent comes on the phone to spend another half an hour or hour trying to figure out what to say then say I dont know.

    I am shocked really to read these posts.
    I am in Jeddah.
    I have one DSL for my home since 2 years.
    in these 2 years i changed my home 3 times. and within 2 to 3 days they shifted my DSL to the other place,
    I am a downloader of ISOs and Games, and i download a lot, but I can’t say that STC is bad isp, because they give me, what they charge for,
    I am working as a computer network consultant, so i have several of my clients too, and i got the DSLs for them also, believe me STC is very good to respond in new line as well as in the complaint case, (not only text, in results)

    2 things i will agree,
    1- The staff on customer support are not well educated about the matter they are serving for,
    2- Long wait for putting complaints,

    as a whole i believe that STC is very good compare to others.
