Starlink, Qatar’s communications and media retail and logistics business, has launched Blackberry’s latest handset, the Blackberry 9810 which is the second generation of the extremely popular Blackberry Torch.
This stunning high-performance smartphone, the latest handset from leading manufacturers RIM, is similar in appearance to its predecessor combining BlackBerry’s industry leading QWERTY keyboard design with a highly responsive, high-resolution touch screen. The similarities however end there as the Torch 2 brings a whole new range of fantastic features to the iconic design.
The 9810, is powered by the most powerful operating system yet, BlackBerry 7 OS. The smartphone offers crystal clear Liquid Graphics, enhanced BlackBerry Browser, voice-activated Universal Search and support for NFC, as well as additional premium personal and productivity apps out of the box.
As well as being more powerful than its predecessor, the Torch 2 supports augmented reality which is a term for a live direct or an indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. As a result, the technology functions by enhancing one’s current perception of reality. By contrast, virtual reality replaces the real world with a simulated one.
The technology allows the information about the surrounding real world of the user to become interactive and digitally manipulable. Artificial information about the environment and its objects can be overlaid on the real world.
Augmented reality uses the camera on the phone to help users to learn about the world around them. It can be used to find a restaurant, compare products, be entertained and to find a fellow augmented reality smartphone user.
Commenting on the launch, Starlink CEO, Keki Ashburner, said, “Blackberry smartphones are one of the most popular and fast-selling handsets in Qatar and we have no doubt that, just as we saw the original Torch fly off the shelves, the Torch 2 won’t hang around for long.”
“The Torch 2 also breaks down new barriers being one of the very first mobile phones to support what is being hailed as the next big thing, augmented reality. This is a cutting edge concept that will change the way we use our phones yet again and it is, without doubt, something that all smartphones in the future will offer,” added Ashburner.
