D1G launches the first Podcasting service in the Middle East
Well this is an enormous step forward, yet a little bit late, I mean how a booming service like Podcasting slipped the minds of all portals and online service providers in Middle East! According to this report on mediaME, D1G has launched the first Podcasting service in the Arab world.
Podcasting is an interesting service that allows anyone to share and publish audio clips; it’s a YouTube but only voice. The service is booming all around the world, and I believe soon in the Middle East it will be a hit.
D1G’s new service “A9waat”, which means voices in Arabic, will offer an easy way to upload, listen, discuss and embed audio clips, but of course it will be pain in the ass to monitor all those daily entries, we all know the kind of content that users like to share, but let’s hope it will be interesting, in a good way 
The thing that I found fishy it that you can download any file that is shared by another user, I mean what if I don’t want my shared clips to be downloaded? I didn’t find anything that allows me to prevent downloading my stuff. Last thing is a new feature that will be added soon according to the news which is the Play All, which will make A9waat like a radio station.

But it’s not the first podcast service.
AMEInfo have been doing them for a long time …..
And individual bloggers started even before that. Ahmad Humeid and some other guy before him…

Zeid we are talking about service provider, does any of the examples you mentioned offer users the ability to upload and share podcasts?

I believe “podcasting” has proven to be just sub-hype back when blogging was still a hype.
Read up on “Odeo” - the first podcasting service in the world started by the same people who did Blogger- and you’ll find that they almost shut down because it wasn’t picking up the way everyone thought. Today it is still struggling with only about 4 million podcasts -which is a very small number compared the the exepectations.
I wouldnt pin too many hopes on podcasting. Or maybe “podcasting” isn’t the right word after all.

Well Laith, still it’s a service and someone should eventually offer it in the Middle East, it should of been done long time ago, and how knows it might boom here.
