Canon Middle East unleashes the PowerShot SX150 IS http://jazarah.net/canon-middle-east-unleashes-the-powershot-sx150-is/ http://jazarah.net/canon-middle-east-unleashes-the-powershot-sx150-is/#comments Mon, 17 Oct 2011 11:55:22 +0000 Samer Marzouq http://jazarah.net/?p=33247 Dubai, UAE, 17 October 2011 – Canon Middle East today announces the launch of the PowerShot SX150 IS – a high resolution, high-zoom digital camera, packed with fun features that make it easy to capture memorable moments in stills and HD movies. With an impressive 12x optical zoom and sharp 14.1 Megapixel resolution, the PowerShot SX150 IS allows all members of the family to improve their photography skills, or simply let the camera do the work, delivering high quality point-and-shoot photos.

Boasting a compact, ergonomic design available in red, black and silver, the PowerShot SX150 IS offers an impressive range of features. Whether on holiday, weekends away or family days out, it’s simple to capture treasured memories, providing the ideal option for users looking for outstanding performance, simplicity and value in one package.

Compact flexibility
The PowerShot SX150 IS’s body houses an impressive 12x optical zoom lens that provides the ability to shoot 28mm wide-angle group shots and landscapes, as well as long-distance close-ups, thanks to its impressive 336mm telephoto reach. Even when shooting handheld, capturing distant subjects and low light scenes in crisp detail is easier than ever, with a 4-stop optical Image Stabilizer (IS) and brand new Intelligent IS technology included to counteract the image blur that results from camera shake.

Whether panning to capture a 100m sprint at a school sports day, or shooting a vibrant flower close-up, Intelligent IS will help ensure images and videos are crystal clear. Completely automatic, Intelligent IS instantly identifies the shooting situation and selects the most appropriate form of image stabilisation from seven possible settingsi. For example, Powered IS – a feature derived from Canon’s LEGRIA camcorder range – ensures that even when shooting a long-distance subject, movies are captured in spectacular detail with minimal blur.

Fine detail with every shot
Featuring a range of Canon’s advanced imaging technologies, the PowerShot SX150 IS lets you capture still images in mesmerising quality. Shots are striking and detailed, with the 14.1 Megapixel resolution capturing the detail required to print in large poster-size formats, or crop the image for a more eye-catching composition. Canon’s DIGIC 4 image processor also ensures images are captured quickly, with excellent colour reproduction and quality, as well as providing outstanding responsiveness in every day operation.

Easy functionality and creativity for all the family
The PowerShot SX150 IS helps to make sure every photo and movie looks stunning, whether you’re capturing landscapes, parties, fireworks or close-up abstract scenes. Smart Auto, with Face Detection Technology and the latest Advanced Subject Detection technology, identifies the shooting scene from 32 variablesii and automatically adjusts the camera’s settings, helping you capture pictures that you’ll want to share with friends and family.

Servo AF/AE technology keeps people, pets and other objects, such as cars, in focus and well-exposed right up until the shutter release is fully pressed and the image is captured. And if you simply want to point-and-shoot, Easy Mode will automatically take control of all camera settings, so even users who are completely new to photography can get the picture they want.

Stills and video clips can be instantly reviewed on a large 7.5cm (3.0’’) LCD screen, offering crisp playback immediately after capture. Helpful on-screen Hints & Tips throughout the menu system also make it easy to learn more about different camera settings and improve your photography skills every time you use the camera.

Shoot creatively – in stills or HD movies
In addition to high-resolution still images, the PowerShot SX150 IS allows you to capture unforgettable moments in 720p high definition (HD) quality with stereo sound. A dedicated Movie Record Button lets you instantly switch from stills to HD movies, ensuring that you don’t lose vital time navigating through menus and settings. You can also shoot videos in Apple’s iFrame format, which requires no transcoding before being imported into Apple video editing software, making it faster and simpler to transfer and edit footage.

Alternatively, you can explore your creativity with an extensive range of innovative Creative Filters that can be instantly applied to bring still photos and movies to life, including Fish-eye Effect, Super Vivid and Poster Effect. Toy Camera Effect gives the impression of photos taken using a pin-hole camera, Monochrome lets you shoot in black and white, sepia or blue monochrome, and with Miniature Effect your images take on the appearance of small-scale models. Miniature Effect also extends to video mode, allowing you to experiment with different effects across stills and HD movies.

Capturing anything from self-portraits to those all-important family moments at Christmas or on holiday is stress-free thanks to Smart Shutter. You can activate the shutter with a simple wink or smile, while FaceSelf-Timer triggers the shutter release when a new face enters the frame – avoiding the traditional sprint from behind the camera, and allowing the photographer to be part of the photo.

In addition, the PowerShot SX150 IS will be compatible with the HF-DC2 – a new high-power external flash unit that can be used to supplement the on-board flash.

Share your stories
With all these features you’ll no doubt have a collection of photos you’ll want to share. Owners of the PowerShot SX150 IS can join the CANON iMAGE GATEWAY, an online facility for sharing photos and video. The Future is NAO! http://jazarah.net/the-future-is-nao/ http://jazarah.net/the-future-is-nao/#comments Mon, 17 Oct 2011 10:04:31 +0000 Samer Marzouq http://jazarah.net/?p=33233 Have you ever met NAO the humanoid robot? Yesterday I did! During an event that was held yesterday at the Place Hotel in Dubai, Aldebaran Robotics and in partnership with Intel showcased the NAO robot and reveled the capabilities of this futuristic invention, the robot as you will see in the video can talk, walk, sit, dance, play music and interact with humans.

Aldebaran team demonstrated the process of defining a behavior to controls the robot using a special software, you just need to use your imagination to bring this 22-inch tall humanoid robot to life! The behavior consists of several actions that define how will the robot interact with the surrounding environment and what the steps he should be taking next based on the inputs from this environment.

In this video you will enjoy a performance by a group pf NAOs then you will listen to the robot introducing himself before dancing to Michael Jackson’s Thriller, also in the video are some of the things the NAO can do:

Last year Intel invested in Aldebaran Robotics, which estimates the value of the robotic industry in 2010 was $20 Billion, including the industrial robots. The company has produced 1100 robots since 2008 with the current monthly production rate is at 100 robots, these robots are used for research around the world, including 5 robots here in Abu Dhabi’s Masdar Institute. One robot costs $15,000 and can work for an hour before the battery goes empty, it can’t run or jump yet but it can sense the edges of a table or the stairs, and in case it fell down it can stand up again. Read more about the Robot NAO.

Such an amazing invention and we are looking for more in the near future!

Sharp sees 50% increase in business leads at Gitex as new solutions impress http://jazarah.net/sharp-sees-50-increase-in-business-leads-at-gitex-as-new-solutions-impress/ http://jazarah.net/sharp-sees-50-increase-in-business-leads-at-gitex-as-new-solutions-impress/#comments Sun, 16 Oct 2011 12:39:10 +0000 Samer Marzouq http://jazarah.net/?p=33187 Sharp Middle East recorded increased interest in its LCD solutions compared to last year, as the inaugural Infocomm exhibition became part of Gitex Technology Week. The largest exhibitors at Infocomm, Sharp saw a marked increase in the percentage of business leads compared to Gitex 2010: more than 50% increase over last year.

The focus on end-to-end solutions, saving costs for customers and improving return on investment, targeted at the professional Audio Visual (AV) industry during Infocomm helped boost the improved numbers.

“The addition of Infocomm to Gitex Technology Week has paid dividends, with an increased interest in our new products and solutions from Audio Visual industry professionals,” said Gautam Chakrabarty, Deputy General Manager – Marketing, Business Solutions Division, Sharp Middle East. “Seeing our latest applications making an immediate impact on their debut in the region has been a huge plus, with the interactive venue maps being an excellent example of how our touch screen LCDs can provide flexible solutions to almost any industry.”

The public debut of one of Sharp’s latest innovations attracted a lot of attention, with the 20 touch screen LCD venue maps located around the Dubai World Trade Centre proving a hit with visitors. The screens saw more than 10,000 people use their smartphones to access more detailed information of exhibitors, including the exact location of the stand.

More than 15 industry applications making use of Sharp’s versatile LCD solutions were demonstrated, giving a glimpse of what can be achieved using the technology. The solutions highlighted included the semi-outdoor applications of the new high brightness enabled LCD panels, with ideal uses including hospitality and events. These were showcased alongside touch screen applications, which were also developed for the retail and banking industry. Adaptive digital advertising, education, entertainment and communications using digital signage are additional sectors served by the latest Sharp solutions.

The power saving benefits of the newest developments were also displayed, with real time energy consumption showed between panels with local LED dimming technology, and those without.

Sharp’s alliance with software company Quividi developed the interactive digital advertising solution, which was also one of the highlights of the stand. The LCD screen was integrated with software developed by Quividi which profiles the person standing in front of the screen, automatically adapting the advertisement on the screen to match the person.

The education focused solutions also proved popular, with a small touch screen LCD used as a digital lectern while the display is linked to a video wall. The brand new 70 inch touch screen was also showcased as a digital whiteboard.

“These innovative solutions can be applied to almost any industry, adding value and reducing costs thanks to the complete end-to-end nature of the installations. This has proved attractive to Infocomm and Gitex visitors this year, and we’re sure that many of these new applications will be utilized in exciting ways,” added Chakrabarty. “We’re looking forward to Infocomm returning next year.”

Dubai, United Arab Emirates: From first time exhibitors to long-term stalwarts of the show, GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK surpassed even the highest expectations in 2011. From tangible deals conducted onsite to new partnerships and future business, exhibitor feedback has reinforced the Dubai-based event as the most influential ICT exhibition in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia and one of the top three in the world.

Many of the participants, which included the world’s most illustrious technology companies, recorded some of their best Returns on Investment (ROI) at GITEX with a substantial increase in footfall from C-level visitors and decision makers.

“The ICT industry in the Middle East is one of the fastest growing in the world and GITEX provides global exhibitors and visitors with direct access to an unrivalled number of decision makers, facilitating an exceptional volume of business as seen in 2011,” said Helal Saeed Almarri, CEO, Dubai World Trade Centre, Organiser of the event.

Promate Technologies had their largest GITEX presence ever this year and during the last four days of the event took a record amount of orders from existing customers and signed contracts with new clients across the region.

“Our sales have surpassed all our expectations for Gitex 2011. We had already broken even by the end of day one, something which never occurred even in the boom times pre global recession,” said Fadi Khalil, Director of Sales, Promate Technologies Middle East. “The traffic that came to our stand consisted of key decision makers with actual spending power and the authority to commit to substantial on-the-spot orders. GITEX 2011 has been a great success and a real reminder that the region is still strong, committed and resilient.”

Featuring more than 3,500 companies from 57 countries, GITEX set the scene for product launches from many of the event’s prominent exhibitors’ including du, Dubai Police, Etisalat, Huawei, Microsoft Gulf, Ministry of Finance, Nokia, Oracle, RIM (BlackBerry)and many others.
