33 years and still going strong

Majid celebrates anniversary with a fresh look and welcomes a host of new characters

Abu Dubai, 2nd March 2011: The Arab world’s favorite children’s magazine, Majid, is celebrating its 33rd birthday in style this year with a fresh new layout, an exciting line up of new editorial additions, and the introduction of a host of new characters to join the fun Majid team.

Over three decades since the magazine’s beginnings, Majid continues to capture the imaginations of young Arab readers with its enchanting stories and cartoons. To celebrate, the award winning weekly magazine will launch an anniversary edition today, packed with fun new features, characters and a cool new look.

Fatima Seif, Editor of Majid, commented on the milestone and the magazine’s new additions: “After so many years we are immensely proud of what Majid has achieved and the ongoing relationship we have with our audiences. The fresh design and new editorial content will make reading Majid an even more pleasurable experience, while the additional characters, who have been brought to life by some of the region’s leading cartoonists, will introduce new role models that children can relate to and learn from. We look forward to introducing our readers to the new-look Majid today.”

Four new characters will be joining Majid and his friends in the new issue, including a competitive restaurant owner, Abo Hedwa, and Tayoub & Tayoush, twin brothers with opposing personalities – Tayoub is quiet and wise, while Tayoush is the ultimate trouble maker. The new character line up will also welcome Ibn Joubeir, the historic Arabic adventurer and scientist who will thrill children with stories of his extensive travels in his book “The Travels of Ibn Joubeir”, where he gives a highly detailed and graphic description of the places he visited.

Readers will also notice the revised sections and new editorial content in the anniversary edition, including “Boustan Al Maarifa” (the garden of knowledge), a section alive with scientific knowledge, a new weekly competition section complete with lots of fun surprises and prizes, as well as an extended area for student contributions to the Majid pages.

Gavin Dickinson, Executive Director of Publishing at Abu Dhabi Media Company, publisher of Majid, added: “Majid is an icon in this region and a publication that countless generations have grown up with. Already established as one of the highest circulated publications in the Middle East, we continue to receive outstanding support from our young readers, advertisers and partners. We aim to maintain this position going forward, and what better way to do this than with an exciting birthday make-over and by extending the family of Majid characters.”
