New Dimensions, Dilemmas and Debates
26 January 2012, Dubai, UAE: Ever wanted to know how to access the unused 80 per cent of your brain capacity? Or wondered just how those 33 Chilean miners survived 69 days trapped underground following the Copiapó mine collapse? You can discover the answers to these questions and much more at BOLDtalks™/ 2012.
BOLDtalks™/, the flagship UAE event from the creators of intellectual entertainment, today unveiled the line-up of speakers for its 2012 edition. Taking place at the Dubai Community Theatre & Arts Center on 25th February 2012, this year’s BOLDtalks promises to inspire, inform, even challenge the way we think about some of today’s most debated issues.
Now entering its third year, BOLDtalks™/ brings to the UAE community a series of thought provoking talks by acclaimed international speakers. Event director Tamer Nahas says, “This year we are proud to host five headline bold talkers. They are all incredible individuals who will open people’s hearts and minds to new ideas and ways of thinking. This will be an intellectually stimulating event not to be missed.”
Among the participating speakers at BOLDtalks™/ 2012 is certified genius and human calculator Rudiger Gamm. While the average human only uses 20 per cent of their brain capacity, Rudiger (who regularly failed math at school) learnt at age 21 how to activate the other 80 per cent of his brain. Using what he calls a “new dimension of the mind”, Rudiger solves complex mathematical problems in seconds. At BOLDtalks he will demonstrate this technique and show how to maximise your own brain potential.
The true test of leadership always happens during a crisis and no one understands this more than Luis Urzua, the last man to leave the collapsed Copiapó mine in Chile. At BOLDtalks Luis will share the nail-biting story of surviving 700 meters below ground together with 32 fellow miners for over two months and how, as chief organiser, he helped to save the lives of his colleagues from inside the mine.
Vern Pike will share a fascinating story about the incidents that led to the creation of the Berlin Wall, and his role as the first officer in charge of Checkpoint Charlie. His experiences there, at a critical point during the Cold War, make him uniquely qualified to tell the story of the Berlin Wall and the gallant men who secured West Berlin against the Soviets.

Miki Mistrati, creator of the multi award-winning documentary The Dark Side of Chocolate, will speak at the BOLDtalks™/ 2012 in Dubai
Miki Mistrati, creator of the multi award-winning documentary ‘The Dark Side of Chocolate’, will bring another contentious issue to the fore as he shares his story of secretly documenting the child-labour market in Ivory Coast’s notorious cocoa manufacturing plants.
BOLDtalks™/ 2012 will also welcome Professor Cynthia P. Schneider, distinguished teacher, publisher and organiser of initiatives in the field of cultural diplomacy, with a focus on Muslim relations. Among her many projects is the Muslims on Screen and Television Initiative (MOST), which Schneider co-directs, providing valuable resources and accurate information on Islam for the U.S. entertainment community.
“We are really excited about BOLDtalks™/ 2012. Our guest speakers, combined with the strong following of engaged and naturally curious people that BOLDtalks attracts, is going to generate some really interesting debate. But seats are limited, so be sure to book your tickets to secure your place.”
Tickets for BOLDtalks™/ 2012 cost AED200 and will be available from 5th February 2012 at DUCTAC, Mall of the Emirates; Souq.com; and the BOLDtalks.com website.

About BOLDtalks/
BOLDtalks is a series of events that host a selection of acclaimed international speakers who present on a range of diversified topics. There isn’t a single theme that the events focus on. Rather, through a careful curation process, we identify topics and speakers from numerous fields that are likely to relate to you, your community and the world in which you live (strictly non-political and non-religious). BOLDtalks is here to start a movement. We facilitate shared exploration towards greater understanding, connection, or possibility. We want to carry us all into new, deeper levels of understanding none of us could have foreseen. It’s all about finding those people who crave knowledge, in the pursuit of positive change.
BOLDtalks™/ 2012 is brought to the community with the support of the following sponsors: Thomson Reuters, ENOC, Emirates Airlines, Arjaan Rotana, Flip Media, MOJO PR, Ranson, blank, Ecobility and Souq.com
