Al Aan TV airs exclusive footage of stoning of a woman by Taliban in Pakistan

Taliban is meeting out summary executions in areas under their influence. This according to a new exclusive footage shown on Dubai-based pan-Arab satellite channel Al Aan TV.

A grainy, three and a half minutes clip shows the stoning to death of a woman by a group of Taliban.

The clip appeared in one of Alaan’s weekly programs (AKTHAR MIN ENWAN) which discussed the implementation of religion for political ends by Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

It is the first time ever that a stoning by TTP is captured on tape in Pakistan.

The video was shot recently in Upper Orakzai in Northwest Pakistan by the Taliban itself. It is a rare visual proof of ruthless methods used by Taliban in Pakistan as well as Afghanistan.

The show hosted as well Pakistani cleric Sahibzada Fazl Karim, a member of Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (JUP). “We do not agree with Taliban, or any other groups or individuals who issue such religious judgments,” Mr. Karim added, “This can only be decidead by qualified people after the suspect undergoes legal religious trials with legal witnesses.”

Speaking about the complexity of applying stoning to a suspect, Mr. Karim explains that any doubt will lead to the immediate termination of such punishment.

Pakistani women and men are frequently targeted by groups of Taliban who roam around parts of tribal area. Proper courts are non-existing; lawyers are unheard of while especially women seem to be randomly charged by violent, ultra conservative local commanders.

Al Aan showed too a clip in which an unarmed woman is shot from the back by Taliban. This also happened in Upper Orakzai.

In most cases women are charged by the Taliban with crimes against morality. Often these charges are issued by Taliban clerics who were appointed by TTP’s commanders.

Alaan TV spoke to ordinary Pakistani civilians in the streets of Islamabad who rejected such practices. “Killing a human being is not permissible under any reason or religion,” said one Pakistani.

Other Pakistani citizens speaking to Al Aan expressed concern that what Taliban is doing is not only harming the international image of the country but it is also giving Muslims a wholly undeserved bad name across the world.

  • A “peace council” established Tuesday by Afghan President Hamid Karzai to negotiate with the Taliban includes the man who is thought to have invited Osama bin Laden to Afghanistan and another who served as a mentor to the mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks. The High Council for Peace’s inclusion of former warlords and ex-Taliban officials is seen by some as antithetical to the body’s goal of ending the 9-year-old insurgency. Sixty-eight of the council’s 70 members have been announced.”Many of these men are unlikely peacemakers,” said Rachel Reid, an Afghan-based Human Rights Watch analyst. “There are too many names here that Afghans will associate with war crimes, warlordism and corruption.”those names include Ustad Abdul Rabi Rasul Sayyaf, a former mujahedeen commander who is thought to have invited bin Laden to Afghanistan after the al Qaeda leader was expelled from Sudan in 1996, and Abdul Hakim Mujahid, who served as the Taliban’s permanent representative to the United Nations. In setting up the peace council, Mr. Karzai on Tuesday formalized efforts to reconcile with Taliban leaders and coax less-ideological fighters off the battlefield. His spokesman, Waheed Omar, described the council as the “sole body to take care of peace tals,” according to an Associated Press report.Meanwhile, Army Gen. David H. Petraeus, the top U.S. and NATO commander in Afghanistan, said Tuesday that some Taliban members have made “overtures” to NATO forces and the Kabul government about ending their insurgency. But those overtures seemed rendered moot by a suicide bomb attack that killed a provincial official and five others in Ghazni province in eastern Afghanistan on Tuesday. Deputy Gov. Khazim Allahyar was killed when one of two vehicles in a convoy carrying him was rammed by a bomber operating a motorized rickshaw laden with explosives.Mr. Allahyar’s son, nephew, a bodyguard and two civilians were also killed, and eight other people were seriously injured. On a day when his peace council was to have been the focus of the news, Mr. Karzai was brought to tears in decrying the violence and expressed the fear that young Afghans will eventually seek to flee their country to escape the mayhem. The council also includes Mohammed Mohaqiq, who fought with the Taliban, and former Presidents Sibghatullah Mojadeddi and Burhanuddin Rabbani. Mr. Mohaqiq and Mr. Rabbani have been implicated in war crimes by several Afghan and international human rights groups.

Sorry for the huge review, but I’m really loving the new Zune, and hope this, as well as the excellent reviews some other people have written, will help you decide if it’s the right choice for you.

  • tv online says:

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

  • tv online says:

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

  • Superb posting we have to spread the word about this internet site. You should have additional interest .

  • great blog! keep up the great work!

  • Fascinating, I passed this on to a friend of mine, and he actually bought me lunch because I found this for him, so let me rephrase: Thanks for lunch.

  • Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.
