Job Description
The Gulf Arab states dominate the global energy markets and have captivated the world’s attention with their ambitions to build modern, multifaceted societies with the windfall revenues from oil exports. Kuwait — the world’s seventh-largest oil exporter and home to perhaps the most vibrant parliament in the Arab world –
stands at the forefront of this story. Reuters is looking for an experienced, energetic correspondent to lead its bureau there.

The successful candidate will manage a small team and ensure that Reuters maintains its lead in the face of intensifying competition by breaking news, making contacts in ministries and industries in a country where officials are reticent, and analysing complex financial and political events. The Kuwait bureau has a brimming newsfile and the successful candidate can expect to provide leadership across the file, cope with long hours, and deal with ambiguous and difficult reporting situations regularly.

He or she will need to be able to handle central bank snaps, energy news, company results, complex political and social developments, as well as delicate religious issues with equal measure. The candidate will need to work closely with colleagues elsewhere in the Middle East. Strong Arabic is required.

- At least five years reporting experience
- Experience reporting on equities, treasury and political and general news.
- Excellent reading, speaking and listening comprehension of Arabic
- Good team player able to lead a small group and work closely with colleagues in the Gulf and throughout the region.
- Strong news judgement and editing skills; the ability to break exclusive news
- Ability to spot trends and write complex stories for a diverse audience.
