MBRSC students visit MBC studios
Students at the Mohammed Bin Rashid School for Communication (MBRSC) at the American University in Dubai (AUD) recently visited the studios of MBC Group, one of the most renowned television networks in the Arab region. Both the English and Arabic track students – along with Communication and Information Studies Professors Ms. Maya Hojejj and Ms. Rebecca Cathcart, and Ms. Layal El Alam, MBRSC Media Coordinator – toured the news studios of Al Arabiya TV station in Media City.
The MBRSC group was taken around the most important parts of the MBC building: the longest screen belt in the world, the business cubicles, news sets, and the hair and makeup room.
The students got a chance to interact with diverse newsroom employees, from print and visual editors to writers and producers. Journalism majors sought advice on reporting and observed a live telecast being recorded during their tour. Digital Production and Story Telling (DPST) students gained insight into the production aspects of creating news as they walked through the main control room.
Visiting MBC was a particularly enriching trip because the students interacted with some of the most important faces in this region’s media, as MBC has been one of the most successful networks in reaching a wide audience.
The professors also shared their experiences of working in the field. With guidance from Al Arabiya staff, MBRSC students broadened their understanding of the media field and saw the potentials of their career paths.
