The QU Wireless Innovations Center (QUWIC) in the Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP), announced the launch of Letters and Words mobile application for iPhone and iPad devices. The application can be found by searching for QUWIC in the iTunes store. Letters & Words application is an educational tool yet an exciting game for kids of all ages.
It works on the delivery of the basics of the Arabic language, and develops learning skills while it establishes a strong bond between parents and their children: parents can use the application as a tool to teach their children while kids enjoy playing with it as a game.
The app consists of three different components—Letters, Words, and Sounds—each component incorporating both learning and fun. Kids will enjoy learning Arabic letters, Arabic Phonetics, words, animal sounds and will learn how to write Arabic letters, as well as explore a fun ‘words’ game with three different levels for all ages, all with appealing animations, colorful art, and musical sounds.
Dr. Adnan Abu-Dayya, Executive Director of QUWIC said: “Developing regionally relevant and useful applications that can appeal to a global audience especially in Arabic has been one of our strategic initiatives from the beginning. We are happy for launching this comprehensive application which shows the capabilities of Arab developers in creating rich and useful applications in the important and under-served segment of children education.”
Letters and Words was the winning application of QUWIC’s mobile application development contest held earlier this year. QUWIC has subsequently partnered and worked intensively with the developer of the application to finalize the development and to commercially publish it on the iTunes store for iPhone and iPad devices. The application is currently available in more than 168 iTunes stores globally.
“We are working on a number of applications that we intend to deliver to the market in the next few months. Building regional capacity and creating value from these applications to both users and developers are key objectives for us” said Omar Bondogji, Head of Business Development at QUWIC.
QUWIC is the first independent regional innovations institution which focuses on utilizing emerging mobility and wireless technologies to develop smart applications and solutions in a number of markets including Transportation, Environment, Education, and Health.
To demonstrate its progress towards achieving its strategic objectives, QUWIC recently launched two major branded initiatives “Smart Living Services” and “Kotobi” and announced a number of branded solutions under the “Smart Living Services” Initiative including the MasarakTM Intelligent Transport Solution, the QAPSS Environment Monitoring Solution, and the LabeebTM Intelligent Sensing and Services Platform.
“We view mobile applications as a key channel for delivering smart living services to consumers and other customer segments. Partnering with individual Arab entrepreneurs and developers is a key component of the open innovations platform which we are building in the area of mobile applications development. The current application is a tangible result of this innovations platform,” concluded Dr. Adnan Abu-Dayya, Executive Director of QUWIC.
