Organizers of the Dubai Lynx have announced the screening of the advertising film Art & Copy as part of their new networking events, the film will be screened on March 14th at 5pm at The Palladium, the venue of this year’s edition of the festival.

I’m excited about this film, it seems very interesting and sheds some light on the creative minds behind advertising, people like Dan Wieden, Lee Clow and Hal Riney, whose work has a significant impact on our culture but yet are virtually unknown outside their industry.

Some of the people who will be featured in the Art & Copy film:

Dan Wieden
The co-founder of Wieden+Kennedy, he coined the Nike tagline “Just Do It”, and was named one of America’s 25 most intriguing entrepreneurs by Inc. Dan and David Kennedy were listed as number 22 on the Advertising Age 100 ad people of the 20th century.

Hal Patrick Riney
The founder of Publicis & Hal Riney, was named #30 on the Advertising Age 100 people of the 20th century. Riney created and did voiceover for the noted “Morning in America” and “Bear in the Woods” television commercials for the successful Ronald Reagan 1984 Presidential re-election campaign.

Lee Clow
Co-creator — along with Steve Hayden — Apple Computer’s 1984 commercial which launched the Apple Macintosh and the “Think Different” slogan. He’s also known for his work on the Energizer Bunny.

SYNOPSIS
ART & COPY is a powerful new film about advertising and inspiration. Directed by Doug Pray (SURFWISE, SCRATCH, HYPE!), it reveals the work and wisdom of some of the most influential advertising creatives of our time — people who’ve profoundly impacted our culture, yet are virtually unknown outside their industry. Exploding forth from advertising’s “creative revolution” of the 1960s, these artists and writers all brought a surprisingly rebellious spirit to their work in a business more often associated with mediocrity or manipulation: George Lois, Mary Wells, Dan Wieden, Lee Clow, Hal Riney and others featured in ART & COPY were responsible for “Just Do It,” “I Love NY,” “Where’s the Beef?,” “Got Milk,” “Think Different,” and brilliant campaigns for everything from cars to presidents. They managed to grab the attention of millions and truly move them. Visually interwoven with their stories, TV satellites are launched, billboards are erected, and the social and cultural impact of their ads are brought to light in this dynamic exploration of art, commerce, and human emotion.
