Quitting a dream job in Advertising to pursue a life
For Marlene Calderon, a career chasing her name on the door has kept her from true happiness and the family she’s wanted.
While attending college in Oregon, she was exposed to Wieden + Kennedy, a national advertising agency based in the area, and she found her passion for working in the advertising field. But even as she reached great success in her career, the long hours, missed family events, and stressed health made her reevaluate what was important. She is now choosing a path where she creates her own future and business, allowing for better health and a more balanced life for her family.
“When I was growing up I think I always thought the American dream is to work in this corporate office and make tons of money, and have a fancy title and drive fancy cars, but as I got older I think the American dream is really about starting something that you believe in,” Marlene said.
To Marlene Calderon, the American dream means making your mark on the country, but she’s rediscovering what she wants her mark to look like.
