2010 Media and Marketing Show opens with strong showing from Middle East marketing community

The Media and Marketing Show (MMS), the region’s premier event for the media and marketing industry, opened Monday under the patronage of his Excellency Ahmed Al Sheikh, Managing Director and Board Member Dubai Media Incorporated.

The show opened with over 2000 attendees during the course of the first day and many more expected through the remaining two days of the conference.

The second day of the media show was headlined by conferences and workshops from Al Arabiya News Channel, Rusiya Al-Yaum and Orient-ESJ. Al Arabiya held an open conference on the Future of Telecommunications in the Middle East, led by Nadine Hani, senior business presenter at Al Arabiya. Panelists of the forum included CEOs of leading local and regional telecom operators such as Etisalat, du, STC and Oger Telecom who discussed the challenges facing telcos as they continue to align content delivery and consumer needs in an ever changing technological environment.

Al Arabiya’s panel session was held in Sheikh Saeed Hall at 12:30 p.m.

Rusiya Al-Yaum, the first Russian TV news channel broadcasting in Arabic hosted its roundtable on ‘Audience reaction to Middle East coverage by international Arabic-language media’. The roundtable led by Khalid Al Rushid discussed the approach international media companies are taking towards Arabic content; how audiences are embracing and also challenging the new streams of news content and the role of international media in Middle East news dynamic. Abd al-Bari Atwan, the editor-in chief of the London-based pan-Arab newspaper Al-Quds Al-Arabi, Dr. Nabil Al Khatib, Executive Editor at the Al Arabiya channel, Dr. Naser Shrouf, Head of Distribution Africa/ Middle East at Deutsche Welle Arabic channel, Aydar Aganin, Director of Rusiya Al-Yaum and many others were among speakers. The round table took place at the Rusiya Al-Yaum’s stand at 14:30.

Orient-ESJ continued to host their series of workshops throughout the conference focusing on the effect of digital technology in the television news industry, led by Mr. Ibrahim Khayat. Lectures were also held by seasoned political correspondent, Mr. Jawad Kazim from his experiences in war reporting in Iraq. Mrs. Joumana Nammour also hosted a lecture providing her insights from her experience as a leading Middle East TV presenter.

The Media and Marketing Show 2010 concludes on 15th December, and is being organized at the Sheikh Saeed Hall, Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre and opens its doors from 10.00 am to 7.00 pm.
