New research from the Arab Advisors Group reveals that 50 out of the 52 Arab cellular operators provide the MMS service. The SMS service, which is provided by all mobile operators in the region, is priced quite differently across the region.
Sudan and Palestine have the lowest average SMS rates, while Morocco and Qatar have the highest.
The research shows that the rate of SMS including taxes in Morocco is the highest. Morocco’s highest rates are followed by Qatar, Lebanon, Syria, Mauritania, Kuwait, Algeria, Libya, UAE, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Yemen, Tunisia, Oman, Bahrain, Palestine and Sudan.
A new report, “SMS and MMS Rates in the Arab World 2012: A Regional Comparison” was released to the Arab Advisors Group’s Strategic Research Services subscribers on April 19, 2012. “The Arab Advisors Group’s regional analysis shows that the average rate of national SMS including taxes for the studied Arab cellular operators is $0.058 for postpaid and $0.062 for prepaid subscriptions, while the average rate of international SMS stands at $0.166 for postpaid and US$ 0.168 for prepaid subscriptions.” Mr. Mohammed Al-Shawwa, Arab Advisors Group Senior Research Analyst, noted.
“The average international SMS tariffs are 2.71 times the average national SMS tariffs for prepaid customers, and are 2.87 times the average national SMS tariffs for postpaid customers,” Ms. Hiba Rabadi, Arab Advisors Group Research Analyst wrote in the report.
