DIY Advertising!

BuyMyVolvo

When you want to sell your car, classifieds is the way to go, it’s cliche but it works, unless you have something else on your mind.

Swedish Art Director Christoffer Castor created this brilliant ad to sell his 1993 Volvo 245GL, the 2.5 minute video is full of reasons why should you consider this car; it’s equipped with both an inside and an outside, 4 door handles, and spinzy winzys on both sides, just to name few, and although the car is infected with Hepatitis B and the backseat is haunted, you should consider it!

The beauty of the ad is the dramatic sense of humor, the general mood of the ad is very serious but the voice over bigs to differ, and perhaps this is the reason why it went viral, the video was viewed more than 700,000 times on YouTube in less than 5 days, it even has its own hashtag: #BuyMyVolvo!

But did he really intend to sell the car or to indirectly promote his advertising and photography skills?

Last year, a filmmaker in USA created an epic ad to sell his Nissan Maxima, the video went viral to the limit that Nissan decided to buy the car and donate money to his favorite charity, the video received more than 1.8 million views on YouTube in less than a year! In a way or another, this was very good for his business Ikonik Films.

Whether both ads were created to sell the cars or to demonstrate creativity, I think it’s really smart and very well done! But the question is; can anyone do this? Anyone that doesn’t work in or related to filmmaking and advertising industry?
