Dubai, home of the world’s tallest building, largest airline, biggest dancing fountain, largest mall, most incredible man-made islands, fanciest most luxurious lifestyle, and, unfortunately, one of the largest carbon footprints in the world.
According to the Heroes of the UAE campaign that was launched 2 years ago by the Emirates Wildlife Society and the Worldwide Fund for Nature, energy consumption in the UAE is among the highest in the world, it’s even higher than the USA and UK, actually if every citizen on this planet consumed energy and resources the way we do in the UAE we will need 4.5 Earths to survive.
So where does that leave us? Well, let’s participate in the Earth Hour, the Dubai Style! On March 31st, people across the globe will turn off their lights for 1 hour in honor of Earth Day. Dubai will do it bigger for the betterment of the world we love by turning off the lights for TWO hours. With all of Dubai joining in on this cause, maybe we can become the number one fan of Earth Day, but in any case, we will have fun in trying to do our part. We know when the lights go out, anything can happen.
But the golden question is: What would you do in two hours of darkness? You could practice your disco dancing, gossip about your friends in their face or you can just be there for your beloved ones.
