Dubai Community Event Delivers Talks that are Bolder than Ever
23 February 2012, Dubai, UAE: Feeling in need of some intellectual stimulation this weekend? Then head to the Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre on Saturday 25th February for BOLDtalks/2012. Enjoy a full day of inspiring, informative and thought provoking talks from a line-up of five very BOLD speakers.
Now in its third year, BOLDtalks brings to the UAE community a series of talks by acclaimed international speakers. Delivering some serious food for thought, this year’s programme promises to be one of the boldest ever.
Opening the session will be multi award-winning journalist and documentary maker Miki Mistrati. He shares a behind-the-scenes account of the making of ‘The Dark Side of Chocolate,’ a covert film about the child labour market in the Ivory Coast’s notorious cocoa manufacturing plants.
With the Middle East ushering in a season of unprecedented change, Professor Cynthia P. Schneider explores new and old modes of diplomacy in the context of the Arab revolutions. Her talk, “You can crush the flowers, but it won’t stop the Spring”, is one you won’t want to miss.
After lunch, Emirati stand-up comedian Ali Al Sayed takes to the stage for some lighter, but by no means less, bold wordplay. His witty interpretation of current events will prove laughter, not sport, is the common language of the world.
Then it’s boot camp for the mind. Learn to train your brain to brilliance with the help of certified genius and ‘Human Calculator’ Rudiger Gamm. Presenting a “New Dimension of the Mind”, this mathematical powerhouse teaches us how to get more from the unused 80 per cent of our brain capacity.
Rounding out the event with a more sobering talk will be U.S. Armed Forces Veteran Vern Pike. The 75-year-old shares his firsthand experience of protecting Checkpoint Charlie, a critical border crossing positioned along the Berlin Wall, during the Soviet occupation of post World War II Germany. He will discuss a series of events that almost led to the outbreak of World War III.
A proponent of open dialogue, BOLDtalks also encourages the community to interact with each bold talker. Following every presentation the mic is handed over to audience members who wish to explore, quiz or challenge the speaker.
