The Lead Translator is responsible for facilitating the work of other journalists by translating Arabic source materials into pitch-perfect English and helping conduct written and personal interviews with newsmakers. The Lead Translator also helps manage a small team of translators that is responsible for the daily production of an Arabic press digest and country reports.

Skills
The ideal candidate will be an Arabic speaker with native, or near-native proficiency in English, with at least 10 years experience in Journalism or a Journalism-related field. They will have a keen understanding of the requirements of various kinds of news copy – and of what is news and what isn’t – and be able to help foster a culture of excellence in the newsroom. With all the potential pitfalls facing journalists in the Middle East, he or she will need to be a real stickler for accuracy. Strong organisational abilities and a demonstrated ability to translate and produce reports under intense deadline pressure are required. They should also be flexible regarding work hours, including being available nights and weekends.
