Mirdif City Centre paints its way into the Guinness World Records

Mirdif City Centre has secured its place in the Guinness World Records after 481 GEMS students joined forces at the mall to put the finishing touches on a giant 36 x 7 metre mural.

The students achieved the world record for the most people painting simultaneously on one painting at one venue, a feat that has been certified by Guinness recently. At 481 students, the Mirdif City Centre attempt smashed the previous record of 300 people, which was achieved in China in February this year.

The giant mural was created as a part of the Mirdif City Centre Community Art Project in the lead up to the mall opening on March 16th. Hundreds of primary and secondary school students from GEMS Education schools – GEMS Royal Dubai School, Cambridge International School, The Westminster School, The Millennium School and Al Khaleej National School– took up their paint brushes in the mall’s Central Galleria for the record attempt.

The huge 252 square metre piece of art, devoted to promoting awareness and protection of the environment and endangered animals, is the largest artwork of its kind ever undertaken in the UAE, and took the students more than 3,000 hours to complete.

Yousif Al Ali, Vice President of Mirdif City Centre, said: “The Community Art Project provided the perfect backdrop for the opening of Mirdif City Centre in March and it is fantastic to see the students’ hard work and dedication being rewarded with world recognition.”

“The initiative started as a way to involve our community in the opening of the mall, and it has grown to be much more than that. We are very proud of what has been achieved by these talented artists and we are thrilled to be a part of such a great achievement,” he added.

The Mirdif City Centre community mural was displayed in the mall’s Central Galleria for the weeks following the March 16th opening, and the giant artwork is now displayed in the south end of the mall.
