Ogilvy & Mather wins 24 Lions in Outdoor, Media, and Radio and Tunisia's first ever Gold Lion
- Ogilvy secures three Gold Lions in Media category -
Cannes, France, June 23, 2011 – Ogilvy & Mather has scooped 24 Lions in the second day of the 58th Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, 2011. Tuesday 21 June saw Ogilvy winning 4 Gold, 6 Silvers and 14 Bronze awards across the Media, Outdoor and Radio categories.
As well as the 24 Lions, Ogilvy also tallied 52 finalists on the night. The second successful night brings the Ogilvy Lions tally to 41: 7 Gold, 13 Silver, 21 Bronze and a total of 82 finalists so far.
Ogilvy creative highlights from day two include ‘June 16th 2014 ‘ a brand collective campaign for Tunisia by Memac Ogilvy Label which won the country’s first ever Gold (Media category). To combat disillusioned Tunisians on strike, demanding instant change after overthrowing dictatorship, the agency got major Tunisian brands and media to pretend it was June 16th 2014, approximately 3 years after first scheduled free elections.
They presented the country as prosperous, modern and democratic via fictional news reports, radio debates and bulletins to show its potential. A Twitter hashtag and website was created to compile the coverage, where people could share their own vision of the future. Soon protests against the strike were held and people returned to work as an act of resistance. To tackle the economic standstill the brands involved resumed traditional marketing, with others following suit prompting a 166% increase in media spend.
Another creative highlight was the ‘Crush Hour’ campaign for Europcar, by Ogilvy France, which won Gold in the Media category. Launching AutoLiberté, a subscription car service and alternative to car ownership, the digital campaign generated buzz via viral Youtube videos. The videos featured a prank on car owners by getting their cars towed and replaced with a crushed car. This was extended through the radio station partnership, where a call from the distressed car owner was broadcast live, fuelling the discussion around the difficulty of car ownership. In five weeks it garnered over 2m Youtube hits and was the 5th most viewed YouTube channel in December 2010. It was discussed on Twitter, blogs, Facebook, in web articles, on two national TV channels. It had a value of more than €1 million in earned media and increased traffic to www.autoliberte.fr by 300% and achieved 83% more subscriptions to AutoLiberté.
‘The Friendship Machine’ created for Coca-Cola by Ogilvy Argentina, won another Gold in the Outdoor category, the campaign’s third Gold Lion of the festival. Ogilvy Frankfurt also secured Gold in the Media category for Best Use of Ambient with its ‘Sporty Vouchers’ campaign for client Sportscheck.
