Sharjah Media Centre’s Ramadan Majlis Highlights Positive Impact of ‘Direct Line’ Radio on Sharjah Community

Sessions Draws Participation of Live Show Anchors

Sharjah-UAE: 06 August, 2012 – In a first-of-its-kind session during the fifth Ramadan Majlis of Sharjah Media Centre, presenters of live programs accentuated the impact of the ‘Direct Line’ programme Al Khat Al Mubasher on UAE’s social development.

Featuring His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, ‘Direct Line’ is simultaneously broadcast on Sharjah Radio and TV. The show offers a platform for residents of Sharjah to voice their concerns that are then addressed by the Ruler of Sharjah on a priority basis.

Titled as the ‘Influence of Live Radio Programmes in mobilising citizens’ for the benefit of the community’, the Ramadan Majlis was hosted by Sharjah Media Centre under the patronage and presence of His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi, Chairman of Sharjah Media Corporation. Held on Monday, 5th August at the Culture Palace in Sharjah, the event was moderated by Rashid Al Kous, Director of Knowledge without Border.

The discussions drew the participation of Rashed Al Kharji, Presenter of Noor Dubai Radio; Mohammed Ghanem Mustafa, Director of Ras Al Khaimah Radio; Mohammed Khalaf, Director of Sharjah Radio; Hassan Yaqoub, Presenter of Sharjah Radio; Mohammed Majed Al Suwaidi, Presenter of Sharjah Radio; Ali Abdul Aziz, Director of Al Rabeaa Radio in Ajman, and Osama Samra, Director of Sharjah Media Centre.

In his opening speech, Rashed Al Kharji elaborated on the preparation and coordination required to put together a show such as ‘Direct Line’. While highlighting the importance of the messages disseminated through the programme, Kharji pointed out that ‘Direct Line’ plays a significant role in improving the lives of its listeners and viewers. Kharji added: “Besides resulting in social and educational development for citizens, the programme has established a unique communication model between His Highness and his people.”

Mohammed Ghanem Mustafa spoke about the important role of anchors of live programmes. Emphasising on the neutral stance they need to maintain, he said the host must possess characteristics such as sophistication, education, a sense of humour, and persuasion skills to address the concerns of callers.

Mohammed Khalaf said: “The interactions of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah showcase a unique approach and allow insights into the work of the media. It additionally reflects the high interaction of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi with his citizens. In addition to finding solutions to the problems of his people, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah has set an example for government officials to harness the media to their advantage and overcome the fear of dealing with media.”

His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi underlined: “Through interactions, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi has encouraged heads of government departments in the emirate to connect with the media and step up their communication with members of the community. This in turn has helped improve the circumstances of the people and achieve sustainable development in Sharjah.”

Hassan Yacoub said that His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi positively impacts the callers and makes them feel a part of a larger family. In addition to improving their lives by reaching out to him through the show, the Ruler of Sharjah has touched a million hearts while dealing with the issues of his people.

On his part, Ali Abdul Aziz expressed his deeply felt gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi for his continuous support and valuable guidance to ‘Direct Line’ since its launch.

In conclusion, Osama Samra completed the session with its role. “Sharjah Media Centre is committed to supporting Direct Line as it allows us to stay updated on the interventions of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi and share his valuable efforts with citizens through all Emirates.”
