VIVA inks deal with Twitter

VIVA announced today that it signed a partnership with twitter, one of the world’s leading social networking sites, paving the way for its customers to update their “tweets” through SMS messages.

The partnership, the first of its kind for any telecom operator in the Kingdom of Bahrain, will allow both postpaid and prepaid customers update their “tweets” through SMS messages.

“VIVA Bahrain thinks of the customer first before entering into partnerships. Our deal with twitter is just another example of providing simple solutions to ease the customer’s life,” said VIVA’s Chief Commercial Officer, Andrew Hanna.

“The twitter community in Bahrain is growing tremendously. The online world has become the “new” way to communicate and we would like to create value for our customers,” he added.

VIVA customers will have to register for the service, free of charge, by sending “START” to 88000 or through logging into their Twitter account and adding the VIVA number under the mobile function in the settings menu. The service is currently available only in English.

“As a part of our partnership with Twitter, they will soon launch the Arabic SMS services to serve all of our customers” added Hanna.

The charge for the twitter service the same as the standard SMS charge within VIVA’s packages and receiving will be free.

Twitter, created back in 2006, has over 10 million users worldwide and is famously knows as the “SMS of the internet world.” Twitter allows its users to micro blog and update their status while being followed ‘online’ by the public.
