VIVA launches Blackberry Torch 9800

Viva announced today that it has launched the Blackberry Torch 9800, calling on customers to book their device through its website.

“We are delighted to offer the latest edition of the Blackberry as a part of Viva’s products making Viva the first operator to launch the phone in the Kingdom of Bahrain,” said Viva’s Chief Commercial Officer, Andrew Hanna.

“Customers can now book their device in advance through the Viva website, viva.com.bh, in order to secure a phone,” added Hanna.

New customers will have the opportunity to obtain a special number ‘free of charge’ and get two months worth of Blackberry service free of charge.

The BlackBerry Torch, the first blackberry 6OS, sports a 3.2-inch capacitive touch screen with a HVGA resolution of 480 by 360 pixels. The phone also has a vertical slide-out QWERTY keyboard and an optical trackpad.

Courtesy of BlackBerry 6 OS, the BlackBerry Torch receives a range of key upgrades in the software department. A new full HTML Webkit browser offers tabbed browsing for accessing multiple web pages at the same time, and the browser supports the popular pinch-to-zoom multi-touch gesture.

BlackBerry 6 also gives users a single view for social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. Furthermore, a next-generation messaging experience includes group messaging for up to 10 people and locations, while a new universal search is available throughout the BlackBerry experience.

The BlackBerry Torch also boasts an impressive out-of-box memory including 512MB RAM, 512MB Flash ROM, 4GB NAND Flash as well as a bundled 4GB microSD card. There’s also a 624MHz processor.

The BlackBerry Torch also offers Wi-Fi Wireless-N and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity. The BlackBerry Torch also gets a 5-megapixel autofocus camera with VGA video recording.
