BlackBerry Torch 9860: The Smooth Experience!
2011 has been quite an interesting year for Research In Motion, the company tabbed into the tablet market with the launch of the PlayBook, the new operating system BlackBerry 7 was released accompanied with couple of new phones and the company celebrated a significant milestone by reaching 70 million subscribers around the world, but it’s not all peachy, a major drop in BlackBerry service came like a cloud on a shiny summer afternoon, and to be fair RIM handled the situation in a good way, specially with that video message from the Co-CEO Mike Lazaridis.
This year was very interesting for this part of the world as well, RIM made 2 global announcements from Dubai, the BlackBerry Tag during GITEX Technology exhibition that was held last month, and later that month BlackBerry introduced the new P’9981 smartphone, which was designed by Porsche Design, such big announcements are very important for the region and we hope that we will see more in the near future.
BlackBerry is expanding its touch-screen portfolio with new devices that either combine the classic QWERTY keyboard with a touch-screen like the P’9981, Torch 9800 and Bold 9900, or even a keyboard-less device like the Torch 9860, although BlackBerry had an all-touch device which is the Storm, the approach with the Torch was a bit different, the keyboard was essential with this lines of smartphones until recently.
The 9860 is a 3.7” touch-screen smartphone that runs on BlackBerry OS 7, the device is powered by a 1.2Ghz CPU, 768MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, and is equipped with a 5MP camera. The screen occupies most of the frontside of the device, along with 5 buttons to navigate through the phone, with the lock key located on top of the device and camera and volume control buttons on the side.
Having a large screen can only make the user experience much better, whether you are reading an email or browsing the web you will feel more comfortable, unless you are a big fan of the keyboard, then you will feel something is missing, but I guess RIM was targeting touch-screen smartphone lovers with the 9860 rather than the traditional BlackBerry user.
The Torch 9860 is equipped with a 5 MP camera with a resolution of 2592х1944 pixels, the camera enjoys autofocus, image stabilization and face detection, and can shoot HD videos with 720p mode, what makes the camera more interesting is the screen, it feels like a digital camera.
