Dubai, UAE, 4 September 2013: As the second phase of its national wellness campaign, Every Step Counts, du has announced the launch of a new tab on its Facebook page in partnership with Hussein Al Jasmi. The new tab is dedicated to encouraging individuals in the UAE’s community to live a healthier lifestyle fuelled by positive energy, inspired by the positive steps towards a healthier lifestyle taken by various individuals from all segments of society.

Every Step Counts Ambassador, Emirati celebrity singer Hussain Al Jasmi, will have an influential role in this phase of the campaign. He will promote the campaign’s social media activities by creating awareness of the importance of physical activity in generating positive energy among the community, which helps in the overall prosperity of the UAE. An inspirational video featuring the celebrity will be posted on du’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/du, as well as its Twitter account, @dutweets, and du’s YouTube channel, theduchannel.

The new tab, which can be found at www.facebook.com/du, will include six interactive areas for customers to experience. These are:

o Share Your Story Today, where members of the UAE community can post their healthier lifestyle success stories through du’s Twitter account, @dutweets, to be featured on the Facebook tab.
o Twitter and Facebook updates. All posts including #everystepcounts will be featured in this feed.
o Movers and Shakers. This section features motivational, inspirational stories from the public, charting their various steps towards adopting healthy physical and nutrition habits. These stories are shared through the Every Step Counts hashtag (#everystepcounts) and through @dutweets.
o A monthly competition, where everyone is invited to take part! By answering a simple question, participants will be entered into a monthly draw to win one of three AED1000 gift vouchers, which can be used to purchase any device, product, or service from du Shops across the UAE.
o Sports Agenda. This calendar will feature Every Step Counts events, such as du’s walkathon, Dubai Fitness Championship, and other exciting upcoming sports activities in the UAE.
o Video Library: If visitors couldn’t make it to an Every Step Counts event or they were there and want to relive it, they can view videos of the initiatives on the tab.

Hala Badri, Executive Vice President, Brand and Communications, du, said: “We encourage creativity and innovation in the UAE community. In an era when social media has become the main driver for reaching out to the public and the media, we decided, within the objectives of our Every Step Counts initiative, to open a communication channel on one of our online platforms. The activities of the first phase of the Every Step Counts initiative included a walkathon in Dubai Mall, the introduction of #everystepcounts on Twitter and Instagram, and today, to mark the second phase of the campaign, we’ve launched a special tab on Facebook. We call on all members of the community to participate in the page’s activities, to inspire others and to contribute to this national movement.”

She added: “Our main goal in launching Every Step Counts is inspired by the speech delivered by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates, and Ruler of Dubai, at the latest Government Summit. In addition to his speech, His Highness also stated in his book, ‘Flashes of Inspiration’, that the most valuable asset a country has is its people, that health is what gives time its meaning and life its taste, and reflected that success is represented by winning, triumph and excellence. And with his iconic hand gesture, he symbolises success, victory and love. This is the inspiration for our Every Step Counts campaign.”

du launched Every Step Counts, in July 2013, and its stages for the next two years include:
1. Educating and encouraging individuals and institutions to pursue a healthy balanced life.
2. Creating a healthy society full of positive energy, and a national culture among all sectors of society to adopt a healthier lifestyle and a positive thought.
3. Measurable indicators and positive practices for individuals and institutions, and reward those who have contributed in driving positive change.
