Foodonclick.com launches in UAE
First launched in Turkey in 2000, yemeksepeti.com has grown into the world’s largest online food delivery portal. Having recently expanded its operations to Russia the e-commerce site is now being launched in the UAE under the brand name foodonclick.com.Foodonclick.com has been introduced into the region as a joint venture with yemeksepeti.com.
Yemeksepeti.com founder Nevzat Aydýn was recently selected one of five Turkish businessmen to participate in President Obama’s US Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship.
With over 600 restaurants already in partnership with foodonclick.com, UAE outlets include a broad spectrum of eateries such as Wagamama, Pizza Express, Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Dominos Pizza, Labneh wa Zaatar and Chillis.
The website concept uses a unique business model that benefits both consumers and restaurants. Unlike other food delivery websites the price paid by the customer does not carry a premium nor do they pay delivery charges. Because of the online aspect all menus are kept up to date with food choices and promotions and new outlets are immediately listed.
Users place their orders online at foodonclick.com and the order is then transmitted in written form to the restaurant in less than a minute. Mistakes are minimised as there is less margin for error compared to orders placed over the telephone. All orders are delivered directly by the restaurant who receives payment. Orders can also be placed in advance.
The UAE restaurant sector is particularly diverse with numerous outlets spread across the city; foodonclick.com was designed to bring internet users together with restaurants that have a delivery service giving them another channel to increase revenue. No initial investment is levied on outlets and the fee structure is commission-based meaning that the restaurant has to succeed in receiving orders before they are charged any fees.
Parent website yemeksepeti.com has over 500,000 users and 3,500 restaurants in Turkey, with over 22,000 orders received per day. 45,000 people eat using the website and more than 400 new users join on a daily basis.
According to yemeksepeti.com founder Nevzat Aydýn the UAE has the potential for similar success; ”the UAE has an extremely plentiful F&B sector both in terms of diversity and quality. Undoubtedly the industry, like in most other countries, has been affected by the global downturn but we want to support the region’s continued growth and commit to supporting its restaurant outlets. Customers want a good value, convenient food delivery service whether they are sat at their desks at work or at home; foodonclick.com delivers that promise.”
Regional CEO, foodonclick.com Shekhar Rao agrees; ”we have already seen a fantastic response from restaurants who want to be closer to potential customers and we believe foodonclick.com will see strong growth in user and restaurant numbers over the coming months.”
