Global ICT Companies Choose GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK As Launch Pad for New Products

Dubai, United Arab Emirates
GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK opens its doors SUNDAY 9 OCTOBER
as leading global companies prepare to launch new products and services to boost the Middle East’s growing ICT market amid growing consumer confidence. Under the 2011 theme of “Redefine the Future” GITEX will address the latest trends, opportunities and solutions most relevant to the region’s businesses.

“In an ever-changing industry, GITEX consistently strives to enhance the experience for exhibitors and visitors alike and is committed to driving even more investment and creating more business opportunities in the Middle East technology market,” said Helal Saeed Almarri, CEO, Dubai World Trade Centre, organiser of the event. “Dubai is the regional hub for the ICT industry and GITEX is the pivotal event for the local, regional and global technology companies based in the Middle East and beyond.”

GITEX Concourse

More than 130,000 visitors are expected through the doors of this year’s GITEX, which runs until 13 October 2011 at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, to experience brand new elements to the show, ensuring the very latest market trends are addressed through a combination of new products and expert insights.

GITEX will host over 3,500 exhibitors from 57 nations, including new country participants Kazakhstan, Latvia, Malta, Morocco and Palestine and new national pavillions including Bangladesh, Italy, Pakistan, Scotland and Spain. More than six hundred companies are also taking part in the event for the first time.

Leading exhibitors from around the world choose GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK to launch their latest global and regional initiatives. GITEX will present several products never before seen or available in the Middle East, including ICANN’s gTLD, Microsoft’s Office 365 and System Centre 2012, Nokia’s N9, Panasonic’s Solar Powered IP CCTV and Home Energy Management System (HEMS), RIM’s Bold 9900, several new products to be launched by Sharp, Symantec’s Endpoint Protection 12 for cloud security, and the latest tablet from Touchmate, with many more exciting announcements to be made during the show. Also among the many GITEX stalwarts, Oracle will be making its 21st appearance this year, with live demonstrations of its latest products.

This year’s event is hosting a series of brand new initiatives to reflect and drive what are fast becoming the most essential ICT business tools.

The inaugural Cyber Security @ GITEX will offer presentations on cybercrime awareness and including live demonstrations to give visitors practical advice on how to defend against cyber crime attacks and the first ever Middle East and India regional finals of the Global CyberLympics Championships, to be held on 10, 11, 12 October 2011.

Also new to GITEX 2011, GITEX Digital Marketing will provide expert advice to maximise the effectiveness of this burgeoning sector with Yahoo Maktoob (Pearl Sponsor), Ikoo (Emerald Sponsor), ICANN (Opal Sponsor) and Khellan and TkXel among the exhibitors.

The new GITEX Card Technology feature will reflect and drive another of the most rapidly developing ICT sectors. From widespread use in the financial services sector to mobile phone sim cards, road toll systems, national ID cards and hospital records, the use of smart card technology, be it in contact or contactless format, continues to grow apace.

On the eve of one of the most anticipated highlights of the event, the Global Leaders Summit, GITEX paid tribute to Steve Jobs, one of the greatest technology innovators of our time, whose iconic achievements transformed the way we live our lives.

During the Summit, themed ‘Innovation in Leadership’, some of the ICT industry’s most successful business pioneers will discuss substance, relevance and fresh innovative thinking. Chris Dedicoat, President EMEA, Cisco International, Rod Beckstrom, President and CEO, International Corporation for ICANN, Giorgio di Paolo, IT Strategy Lead IGEM, Accenture, William Saito, CEO, InTecur KK, and Pranav Mistry, voted one of the top 35 young innovators in the world and inventor of Sixth Sense, will discuss a range of subjects as diverse as The Future of Online Innovation and Invisible Computing.

Building on the highly successful 2010 launch of GITEX Mobile, Apps and Content World, the 2011 edition returns with an even stronger and more comprehensive presence. The Middle East and Africa are set to be among the top two global smartphone markets in the next four years, opening the door to massive investment and – potentially – equally massive returns.

In another first for GITEX, as the Middle East rolls out the next generation of Long Term Evolution (LTE) and 4G telecoms technology, GITEX will host the region’s most influential gathering of telecommunications experts at the inaugural Telecom Symposium. World renowned experts from some of the industry’s most illustrious organisations will share their knowledge and insights into the lessons from the past, the issues of today and the possibilities of the future.

GITEX is once again hosting a plethora of government departments, exhibiting their latest innovations and technology. Government @ GITEX will provide the perfect platform for showcasing the most impressive products and services from the public sector, including launches from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Public Works and Dubai e-gov.

Co-located for the first time, InfoComm Middle East & Africa (IFMEA) is a joint venture between InfoCommAsia and Dubai World Trade Centre, jointly promoted with GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK. InfoComm MEA 2011 helps AV professionals and end-users in the region to keep abreast of latest developments and expand their skills and knowledge. The event will feature CTS-accredited education seminars from the InfoComm Academy, along with a variety of opportunities for manufacturers to present their solutions in conferences and training sessions.

GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK 2011 is open to trade visitors and industry professionals only from 1pm – 7pm, Sunday 9 October and from 10am – 7pm from Monday 10 October to Wednesday 13 October 2011 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. On Thursday 13 October the show will open at 10am and close at 5pm. Registration costs AED 70 per day or AED 130 for a five day pass. For more information, please visit www.gitex.com.
