Junior Jockeys Join the Peace and Sport Dubai Forum Awareness Campaign

26-3-2013 – Yesterday, the Peace and Sport Dubai Forum 2013 organising committee joined hands with the A’ayan horse riding club for women and children as part of the promotional campaign that is taking place to highlight the Forum which will take place in Dubai for the first time on the 23rd and 24th of April 2013. This Forum is hosted by the Dubai Sports Council in collaboration with the international Peace and Sports Organisation under the banner of “together through sports… we can achieve sustainable peace”.

During the event, fifteen female and junior jockeys [below 12 years of age] undertook a desert horseback ride in the Khawaneej and Al Warqa region, raising both the Emirati Flag and the Peace and Sports Dubai Forum Banner in an atmosphere of history and pride, as horseback riding is considered the sport of ancestors that is deeply rooted in both heritage and future generations.

The A’ayan horse riding club for women and children is considered one of the most successful equestrian training schools in the region with over 200 active trainees, both females and juniors -below 12 years of age. The club offers a range of training courses from basic horseback riding, to introduction to equestrianism, as well as dealing and caring for horses and other equestrian essentials. The club is also heavily involved in the preparation of both trainers and riders for endurance horse races.

Preparations for Table Tennis Expat Cup continue
On another note, the preparation for the expat cup in table tennis are ongoing in collaboration with the UAE table Tennis federation and will start on Friday 29 March in Midriff City Centre with over 200 players from various nationalities.
The competition will start at 9:00 Am and continue to 5:00 PM, with multiple cups in various age ranges taking place simultaneously with the winners being awarded respectively in the late afternoon.

The expat cup is also part of the promotional campaign of the Peace and Sports Dubai Forum which is being administered by the Forum organizing committee and has to date included the completion of the record winning Peace Dove Button Mosaic, as well as a government and private school art competition which will run to the beginning of April alongside a number of Peace and Sport Workshop that will also be taking place in various schools and universities in and around Dubai.

Additionally, an Endurance Cycling Race will take place at the Dubai Velodrome on April 8th, Workshops at Jazeera University and American University of Sharjah on the 9th and 10th of April respectively, alongside a tour of the Emirates that will be done by the Peace and Sport Dubai 2013 Forum Bus from the 11th to the 14th of April. On April 15, Abu Dhabi will host the Peace and Sport Festival during the day, followed by a night of poetry at the Dubai Press Club, culminating in the Peace and Sport exhibition of Arts and Crafts on the 21st of April.

The Peace and Sport Dubai Forum 2013 will be held at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel from Tuesday 23rd April to Wednesday 24th April and feature a mix of Arab and global leaders in sport, politics, civil society, private sector as well as many local sporting ambassadors.

Registration for the participants started on the 12th of March 2013, and all peacemakers are invited to register their participation in what promises to be the start of a new dawn in peace activism in the Middle East.
