Nokia E7: The Executive Smartphone
The Nokia E7 is a 4-inch business-oriented slider smartphone, the E7 is the new generation of the Nokia Communicator and is powered by Symbian^3, which makes it one of the very last Nokia phones to work on that OS. The phone is slightly bigger and heavier than other smartphone in the market as it contains a full keyboard for people who prefer the physical buttons over the virtual ones, reminds me with the BlackBerry Torch.
The E7 is very similar to the N8, only comes with a bigger screen and dual-keyboards but with a smaller camera, 8MP in the E7 compared to 12MP in the N8. Sliding the E7 reveals a mini-laptop that will help you in doing your business, the Office corner in the E7 is what any professional needs in a phone, you can create, read, create and edit documents, excel sheets and presentations, you can open documents in Microsoft word format but anything with OpenOffice format won’t open. One of the cool things about E7′s Office is the Adobe PDF reader, in addition to the Zip app, the dictionary and some other apps.
Defining your email is pretty easy with the E7, you can choose the predefined setting for email providers like Gmail and Yahoo, and you can choose other if you are not using any of the main providers, like me I use Google Apps for my jazarah email, I didn’t face any trouble setting it up on the E7, and I’ve been using it without any issues, and the good thing is that it’s synchronized, whatever is sent from the phone is reflected on the web-client and vica-versa, same thing for your drafts.
Staying connected to your social networks is an obvious thing, everybody needs it and it’s an integral part of any phone now, with Nokia phones you can have one login via your Ovi account, that would give instant access your Facebook and Twitter accounts. Your contact in the phone book can be synchronized with both social networks, which gives you the ability to follow their news and contact them immediately through Facebook and Twitter, and it also helps you to “put a face on the name”, instead of the blank faces you have in the phone book, you can get their profile pictures instead.
Some of social network features are not available on the social network app in Nokia, one of these features is the Facebook chat, I found a really cool free app on the Ovi store for Facebook chat, if you really like to chit-chat with your buddies on Facebook this is the app for you!
Skype on the go! Ideally you should have a data package to really enjoy your smartphone, and Skype is one of these goodies you will enjoy when you are connected all the time, you can chat and even call your contact wherever you are, I really love that! So if you have your email and you are connected on Skype all the time, you can simply pretend that you are actually in the office on your desk when the boss is away on a business trip!
The WhatsApp is yet another great way to stay connected to your friends no matter what mobile phone they are using, it’s similar to the BlackBerry messenger but it works on all mobile brands and platforms, simply download the free app from the Ovi store, register your mobile number and start chatting with your friend whether they were on an Android-powered device, a BlackBerry, an iPhone or Nokia.
One of the great things I found in the E7 is the ability to connect a USB flash drive and actually browse it to copy and paste files on it, this is really awesome! In the video above, just towards the last 2 minutes, you will see that I watched the Hangover movie on the E7, the movie was stored on the USB flash, I tried to connect the HDMI cable on my TV but something was wrong, I mean if it worked I would be watching it on the bigger screen. The E7 enables you to shoot and watch in HD, simply connect the cable to your TV and you can watch whatever you shot.
