Dubai Press Club Completes Final Preparations for 11th Arab Media Forum

Dubai-UAE: 5 May, 2012 – Dubai Press Club today announced it has completed the final preparations for the 11th Arab Media Forum (AMF). Organized under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the event is set to gather opinion leaders, politicians and media personalities from around the world to explore solutions to challenges facing the regional media landscape.

Themed ‘Arab Media: Exposure and Transition’, AMF 2012 will run from 8-9 May at the Grand Hyatt. The event will release the fourth edition of the Arab Media Outlook report and conclude with the Arab Journalism Awards, the region’s foremost acknowledgement of excellence in media.

Today, the media industry in the region is influenced by all layers of the society. The forum’s sessions will summarize and examine the factors driving this shift to offer substantial evidence and help decision-makers and thought leaders chart future trends for coping with the rapid changes.

“While preparing the agenda for AMF 2012, we have relied upon the outcomes of the fourth Arab Media Outlook report 2011 – 2015, which is also titled ‘Arab Media: Exposure and Transition’. The report monitors developments in the media landscape across the Arab region and forecasts the growth over the next five years in 17 Arab countries.”

Dubai Press Club has received confirmation from350 international participants, including 70 speakers from leading editors, columnists, and reporters from newspapers, television stations, radio stations, as well as academics and researchers from agencies, educational and research institutions. Over 2,500 media persons from 45 countries have registered online.

The presence of high profile international delegates will ensure global visibility for the event. In addition to coverage from major newspapers, magazines and radio stations, the forum will see a spate of special reports from key channels across the Arab region.

Al Arabiya news channel will broadcast a session titled ‘News Channels and Arab Revolutions: Questions about Coverage and Performance’ on its popular show ‘Hewar Al Arab’. Jointly organised by Al Arabiya, the session will discuss the effectiveness of news channels during the Arab spring. In addition, channels such as MBC, Al Hayat network, Egyptian satellite TV, On TV, Rusyia Al Youm, Al Jazeera, BBC Arabic, Abu Dhabi TV, Sharjah TV and the Rotana network will cover the forum’s activities through a variety of interviews and talk shows.

Dubai Media Incorporated has won exclusive rights to broadcast a comprehensive coverage of AMF 2012 across its portfolio of TV channels, radios and websites. The well-known programme ‘Dubai Hatha Al Sabah’ (Dubai this Morning) will feature live interviews from the venue. The opening ceremony will be aired live on Sama Dubai, Noor Dubai and Dubai One, while the Arab Journalism Awards will broadcast live on Sama Dubai and Dubai TV. Sama Dubai will additionally host speakers at the forum in its programmes ‘Sabah Al Khair Ya Beladi’, ‘Al Marsa’ and ‘Akher Al Osboo’. Meanwhile, ‘Alam Alia’, a popular programme on Dubai TV, as well as insightful shows on Dubai One are set to offer comprehensive special reports and interviews with AMF delegates.

Bin Fahad added: “We have ensured that we engage every stakeholder from the Arab region and the world that is interested in the forum’s debates. This year, the discussions will not be limited to those present at the event, as we have adopted technologies that will allow individuals to communicate with the forum and contribute to the active exchange of ideas. An independent digital reporter will convey the key comments of panellists and moderators during the event through social networking channels.”

Articulating its commitment towards the UAE youth, Dubai Press Club will also host over 60 volunteers at AMF 2012. DPC’s initiative to engage volunteers is in line with its efforts to promote volunteerism and community service amongst the youth. As the largest gathering of media in the Arab world, participation in the event will also allow students and other volunteers to hone their project management skills. Students-volunteers this year will witness introspective debates that dominate today’s media landscape. The experience is anticipated to help broaden their career prospects and open doors to new opportunities.
