Our client is a worldwide corporation with a strong global presence in a variety of different markets. They are a leading export and manufacturing company within the FMCG space.

They have an excellent reputation and are world renowned with an exciting and dynamic growth plan for 2011.

We are looking for an experienced Chief Marketing Officer to be based in Amman, Jordan.

Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer

OVERVIEW OF ROLE

To formulate, gain agreement to and implement marketing strategies, policies and procedures and to plan, manage and follow-up on all corporate marketing operations and sales management activities, encompassing all Nuqul Group subsidiary companies in order to develop and maintain new and improved products, brand equity and ensure the achievement of short and long term sales volume and profit objectives through marketing initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Executive Role:
• Leads the effort – as a member of the executive team – in the continuing development and refining of the vision and strategy for Nuqul, and to the overall process of management and corporate decision-making to ensure the Group maximises its profitability and returns to its shareholders.
Management Role:
• Manages the Marketing function, providing leadership, encouraging teamwork and facilitating the Group-wide integration process in order to achieve high performance standards and staff pride in performance and contribution.
• Exercises financial authority to the level delegated by the CEO.

Organisation Structure – Policies & Procedures:
• Responsible for rationalising, implementing and seeking continual improvement to comprehensive and effective organisational structures, policies and procedures fully utilising the Group’s information system capabilities, in order to facilitate the achievement of Marketing objectives.
• Responsible for ensuring the complete implementation of all related Marketing GSM in the Group and its business units

Plans & Budgets:
• Prepares the Marketing business plan and budgets ensuring that adequate funding provision is made for all marketing activities.
• Responsible for continuously reviewing reports of sales data and marketing expenditure, cost of advertising and promotional programs by product line, by territory against approved levels on a regular basis and investigates and justifies significant variances, and initiates corrective actions required to ensure effective performance and cost control.
• Responsible for ensuring the integrity of business plans – in the related function – submitted by the business units, that they reflect the reality on the ground, and that they are in line with the Group’s strategy

Policies & Procedures:
• Develops, implements and seeks continual improvement to comprehensive and effective organisational structures, policies and procedures for the Marketing department to ensure the optimum deployment of resources and effective work processes.

Sales and Marketing Planning
• Responsible for generating higher revenues/ prices from the different brands in order to get the maximum value out of the marketing spend
• Responsible for establishing the following functions whether internally or through second party providers: sales management, market development, market audit, market research, advertising and promotion and that all of which build the base for strategic planning for all marketing initiatives and strategies.
• Responsible for optimising the marketing spend though implementing the most cost-effective tools/ approach
• Responsible for continuously getting feedback from the market to ensure continuous product development in collaboration with the Operations Department
• Responsible for establishing a consumer research and market testing functions efficiently and effectively
• Responsible for formulating long-range and short-term plans, programs, and operating marketing procedures and objectives, and ensuring the proper implementation and adherence from all business units to such

Brand Strategies:
• Responsible for the development and implementation of individual brand strategies and brand platforms and guidelines, setting marketing plans and targets for each brand in the product portfolio in order to ensure brand value is built and maintained.
• Responsible for optimising the brands portfolio and building the maximum brand equity that will give maximum revenue/ return
• Responsible for developing effective positioning strategies in all markets and for all regional brands
• Responsible for managing the image of all brands at all levels
• Responsible for evolving the brands through continuous evaluation along with the changing market dynamics
• Responsible for ensuring to always find new territories of brands’ plateau’s of uses/ users/ usages to ensure continuous safeguarding of the brands
• Responsible for conducting market research to ensure that consumer requirements/ attitudes and behaviors are aligned with the brand strategy

Collaborative Planning:
• Collaborates with associated chiefs, directors and managers for the formulation and determination of marketing objectives, pricing and marketing and sales programs designed to achieve maximum volume, increased market share and brand health and effective territorial expansion.
• Responsible for developing marketing strategies in order to direct regional sales & marketing in the different business units.
• Responsible for directing all business units’ purchases and development of advertising programs from agencies to ensure the maximum benefit out of spend

Sales Forecasting:
• Responsible for ensuring the conducting of studies – through the help of business units – for the development of sales forecasts through the analysis and interpretation of data relating to economic, industry, marketing and sales activities in order to inform decision-making on operational planning inventories, pricing and budgetary levels.
• Responsible for ensuring that alignment exists between Group sales and marketing spend by setting long-term sales targets and validating such to Group Strategy

Future Markets:
• Directs the research and assessment of current and potential markets on an ongoing basis in order to determine current and future marketing strategies.

Product Development:
• Responsible for managing the process for new product development and its launch along with the Operations Department in order to identify and develop opportunities for innovation that will enable sustainable competitive advantage.
• Responsible for the project management aspect of the launch of any new product
• Responsible for optimising the concept-to-market cycle to 1.5 years taking into consideration the lead time of machinery
• Responsible for recommending changes in product lines and predicting how such will impact sales volumes, expenses, and profitability

Competitor Activity:
• Responsible for properly analysing the market share of our products in addition to that of the competitors, and appraising existing Group’s products as opposed to those of competitors relative to design, price, marketability etc and recommends changes in sales techniques, design or features’ improvement,..etc
• Directs the research and assessment of current and potential competitor activity on an ongoing basis in order to support the achievement of sustainable competitive advantage.
• Relationship Management:
• Responsible for partnering with key suppliers and valued consultants
• Responsible for implementing a comprehensive CRM model in addition to an attractive website that will keep us close to our customers
• Responsible for all communications & promotions by categories and trade channels.
• Responsible for analysing retail audits and mystery shopper programs and implementing actions to constantly provide the customers with value-added products and solutions.

Keeping Informed:
• Keeps informed of local, regional and international industry developments, with the emphasis on marketing and sales issues, in order to identify opportunities of benefit to the Group.

Human Resources:
• Manages the Marketing team, providing inspiring leadership in recruiting, developing and motivating staff. Encourages teamwork and continuous improvement through the performance management process in order that high performance standards and staff pride in the execution of tasks are achieved.
• Responsible for ensuring that all positions/ functions under which are manned with highly qualified people

Cultural Values:
• Responsible for trickling down the core values to all reports, and making sure that the culture is instilled for all direct & indirect reports in the Marketing Department.
Others:
• Responsible for handling other related or similar functions as directed by the CEO.

Communications
• CEO contact to gain approval for plans and to report progress.
• Pan-Group interfaces at the executive level to consult, inform and follow-up on marketing and sales initiatives.
• Regular meetings with direct reports and other key staff to discuss progress, identify and act on development/training needs to impart motivational and inspiring leadership.
• Main external contacts are with agencies and research companies to provide briefings on services required; key account customers to nurture relationships and exhibition management from participation in trade shows
• Strong leadership and motivational capability.

Decision Making

• Jobholder is free to deploy resources according to operational requirements and as per the approved organization chart and budget in order to achieve annual results.
• The CMO is accountable for creating the Group marketing and sales vision and strategic direction and seeks approval from the CEO/Board for its implementation. CEO/Board approval is also required for authorisation of marketing plans and any extraordinary expenditure.
• The CMO is empowered to take all operational decisions in relation to delivering against total business revenue targets and market share.
• Jobholder is responsible for ensuring that the developed job descriptions for all direct and indirect reports are comprehensive, fully understood and adhered to.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

• A graduate Major in marketing from a recognised business school, with a postgraduate degree in marketing
• A minimum of 10 to 15 years corporate private sector experience in a range of increasingly challenging marketing roles. It is expected that at least 5 years of this would be at the managerial level.
• Leadership ability is essential along with well-developed motivational and organisational skills.
• A strong commercial focus is also essential along with the ability to establish effective working relationships with the marketing sector.
• Excellent written and spoken English and the ability to communicate effectively.
• In depth knowledge and understanding of market characteristics and dynamics.
