- Ogilvy & Mather Argentina also picks up Direct Agency of the Year -
Cannes, France, June 21, 2011 — Ogilvy & Mather has scooped 17 Lions in the first day of the 58th Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, 2011. Monday 20 June saw Ogilvy winning 3 Gold, 7 Silvers and 7 Bronze awards across the Promo and Activation, Direct, and PR categories.
Ogilvy & Mather Argentina also won Direct Agency of the Year, with Ogilvy Brasil coming in third. As well as the 17 Lions, Ogilvy also tallied 30 shortlistings on the night.
Ogilvy creative highlights from day one include ‘The Friendship Machine’ for Coca-Cola by Ogilvy Argentina Buenos Aires, which picked up two Gold awards in the Direct category. The Coca-Cola Friendship Machine was born to make all the friends of Latin America celebrate Friend’s Day in a very special way. The creative idea was centred around getting everyone to enjoy and share a 2 for 1 Coke offer, by using a 3.5 meter tall vending machine which required the direct interaction of the friends with the huge structure.
The ‘Watson’ work for IBM by Ogilvy & Mather scooped both Gold and Silver in the PR Category as well as being shortlisted three times, in the Promo and Activation and PR categories.
Ogilvy & Mather New York created an avatar as a public face for IBM’s computer, Watson. To make to make IBM relevant to a broad audience and reinforce their leadership in research and development, the work took people behind the scenes, documenting Watson’s progress for two years, explaining science behind the machine and educated the world about the possibilities of this impressive leap in computer science. Watson became a pop icon – covered by all US talk shows, Saturday Night Live, even inspired parodies – garnering over one billion impressions worth $50 million in earned media.
